From the Principal.......
Dear Mustang Families,
I hope you're all doing well. This week, the District Leadership has spent these Spring Break days meeting and planning together how we will proceed during this closure. As I shared with all of you encouraging you to extend yourself grace, I too, have been trying to do that with myself this week as we prepare into uncharted territory. As you know, we've never done remote learning options or been trained in this both from the educational side nor your side. However, here's the way I look at it. We're in a place where I encourage all of us to shift our language to "Home Learning" instead of "Home Schooling". Making this shift will provide all of us the grace that we're doing the best we can to work together to provide home learning for our sweet Mustangs. Together we'll do our best.
Our district leadership and our staff are working diligently behind the scenes to prepare the best we can for Home Learning. We've spent hours meeting virtually talking about enrichment resources that we can provide our students. Staff are preparing enrichment resources for delivery to students online and there will be paper/pencil packets available on Friday, April 3rd and new resources every week. There will be more information coming to you on Wednesday, April 1st regarding that coming your way next week.
There's an article below about teachers contacting students next week. Please be ready to accept that call. Staff want to touch base with you, listen to what your needs are and let you know that we're thinking about you. They will have several questions for you during your discussions as we want to learn more about how our Mustangs are doing and how we can build resources to provide you with what you need. Staff will have set student support hours for students wanting help on their enrichment activities starting the week of April 6th.
If you need anything, please do not hesitate contacting me. I am going day by day as information changes hourly nowadays. It's our new normal. I have a new Google Voice number so if you need to call, text or leave a message for me, you can do that by contacting: (503) 660-8643.
I appreciate all of you so much. Take care and we'll be talking to you all next week.
Sincerely,
Lisa Tyler

Mustang Running Club
Hey Mustangs! With this extended school closure the First Grade Running Club will be unable to make our next destination goal this year the way we originally planned unless we work together to make it!. So…Let's keep moving Mustangs! First Grade Running Club would like every Mustang to join us in adding up the miles we are walking, running, or hiking. Families are more than welcome to help as well. Keep track of how far you walk, run, or hike and then let me know by email or using the google form link below. (If you use the McBride or High School track, each lap is a quarter of a mile.) I will post updated totals on McBride’s Information Station on Facebook. First grade was headed to Disneyland (1,016 miles) and has already logged 236 miles. Together, as the Mustang Running Club, we can make it there and beyond!
Or, email Mrs. Griffin kendrag@sthelens.k12.or.us. Be sure to include your Mustang student’s name(s), grade, teacher and total miles (round to the nearest ½ mile please).
