PES Principal Message
February 2, 2023
Puster Families,
I hope the kids are finding ways to keep the stir crazies from setting in and that all of you are finding some joy in the extra family time. :) We will be excited to get everyone back to normal soon. In the meantime, please see the contingency plans for all Puster events below.
Although a decision has not been made regarding school for Friday, February 3, the annual Bump Up Day scheduled for our 4th, 6th and 8th graders has been postponed. Details of when it will be made up will be shared next week.
In the event of a delayed start or canceled school on Friday, February 3rd, the 100th day of school activities for Kinder will be moved to Friday, February 10th.
In the event school is canceled on Friday, February 3rd, the Daddy Daughter Dance will be rescheduled for Friday, February 10th. In the event school is in session or we have a delayed start, the dance will be hosted as planned for the 3rd.
I will send an additional communication confirming all plans. Thank you for your patience!
Puster Proud,
Holly

Heart of the Teacher and Heart of Support
Ariel is a ray of sunshine at Puster. She is a huge part of building a positive culture on our campus. She has built a great STEM/Library program for our students and is constantly learning. She truly knows our students as individuals and works to motivate them to learn.
Pat Panmanee, Student Nutrition
Pat works whenever, whatever, wherever needed. She loves the kids and goes out of her way with each individual student. She pays attention to their needs and wants and remembers them when they come through the cafeteria.

News from Mrs. George
Parents,
Just a reminder that school begins at 7:55 am. Students should be in their seats at 7:55 when the bell rings. In the event you are running late, a parent should walk the student into the front office to sign them in. Please let the office staff know if you have any questions.
Testing season is upon us. Students identified as English Language Learners will be participating in TELPAS assessment during a five week window in February. More information on specific testing dates will be coming soon.
STAAR dates for third and fourth grade are listed below. Please schedule appointments around these dates.
Notes from the Library
Dear Parents,
Lovejoy ISD currently offers students access to digital library books through SORA. The District has the ability to curate the collection of books accessible to students through the SORA platform. However, publishers at times have included external links with the digital books, similar to what is found in some hardcopy books. These external links are not maintained by the District and are not a material within the control of the District. The District neither selects the external links nor endorses the specific links. The District believes the online SORA platform is a beneficial program and will continue to allow students whose parents agree to utilize the resources.
In the spirit of transparency, the District is notifying parents of their right to opt out of the use of the SORA platform for their children. If you elect to not have your child access digital books through SORA, please contact your campus librarian.
As a reminder, parents may access a list of digital books their children have checked out by following the steps noted below.

Attendance Updates
Attendance continues to be a top priority for Lovejoy ISD. It should come as no surprise that attendance has a direct relationship with student learning. Additionally, public school funding is provided by the State of Texas based on each district's average daily attendance (ADA).
Lovejoy has developed an Attendance Task Force consisting of staff, parents, and students to formulate ideas about how to positively impact ADA in our district. One suggestion is to update the community via weekly principal communication on the number of absences each campus has accrued YTD along with the budgetary impact of those absences.
