We are up to something good at Hickory Flat!
A Note from the Principal...
We have likely experienced many emotions this week with the storm uncertainties, the scary weather, and the aftermath of the storm uniting our community to help those in need. We ended up with an extra-long weekend and I hope you were able to reflect, rest, and begin the healing process.
Monday: No School as we honor the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. Please check out the links below for some local commemorative events and a video to help your student understand the important work of MLK, Jr. If your family and/or student participates in any acts of kindness related to MLK Day, please send me a picture and any details to: dana.flowers@henry.k12.ga.us I'd love to shout out the good works of our students!

Cultivating Action: Commemorating the Life & Legacy of MLK, Jr. The 2023 MLK celebrations at Georgia Tech include both virtual and in-person educational programs and service opportunities. Whether you participate in a formal plan of commemoration or not, please find something good to do for your neighbor. Monday is not about a day off from work and school, it's about a day ON to honor the life and legacy of one of the greatest leaders of all-time. You can also check out the video, "Our Friend, Martin" by clicking here. It's one that elementary students often find interesting and is a great way to help them understand the impact Martin Luther King, Jr. had on our country. | Student Ambassadors We love our newest team of student ambassadors at Hickory Flat! They will be up to something good, for sure! | Learning Matters! Forming partnerships is a great way for students to apply their thinking, gain feedback, and prompt each other towards deeper application of content knowledge in any subject. These students were hard at work this week with focused academic discussion and utilizing their HMH resources too! |
