Term 2 Week 7 - 12 June 2020

Big picture

Good afternoon everyone!

I hope you are all keeping warm and dry. Here at Holy Rosary we are jumping and jiving, wiggling and rapping to some awesome tunes organised by our Year 6 classes and Mrs Butson at the ‘Holy Rosary Socially Distant Disco’. It has been really nice to see all our students in such good spirits and having a heap of fun leading into the weekend.

In more amazing news, the footy is back! A rather interesting game last night - low scoring and a draw! Still, it is back and we can all look forward to an Eagles win tomorrow night! We have also seen the many of our ‘on-site’ sports return to normal for our students this week which is sure to be a hit with parents and students alike.

Many of you may also be aware that Michelle Blythman in 2C has some wonderful news and is expecting a baby boy later in the year. She will be finishing up at the end of term to start her maternity leave. We wish Michelle, Craig and her new family all the best and look forward to meeting the new baby once he arrives! On that note, I welcome Giulia Pasquale to the Holy Rosary Team for the remainder of 2020. Giulia comes to us from Matthew Gibney Catholic Primary School and like Michelle, has a great enthusiasm and energy for the children in her care. Some exciting times ahead for 2C!

As Week 7 draws to a close can I please ask parents to make sure their children now have the correct school uniform. In light of the COVID situation we have been a little more lenient on the uniform rules this term, however, I believe most students have now got this sorted out. Thanks to everyone who has already done this, the uniform shop link is on the school website. One other little issue we have had lately in this space is the use of smart watches at school. This is a difficult thing to manage as many are VERY expensive and link to phones. Please do not send your child to school with these devices as we cannot be responsible for ensuring they are not lost or stolen and we do not want students in a situation where they may be tempted to text or make calls during the day.

As always, I will comment on the Drive through and pick-up! I thank everyone again for their patience and to date we are still getting everyone through, with a few less staff, by 3.20pm in the afternoons. Many parents are enjoying the 10 minutes of peace while waiting in the line, while others are parking and walking in to pick up kids. This is up to you! There is lots of parking at Hale too and parents are welcome to use the top gate near Year 6. Pre-Primary parents seem to be loving the drop off option and so at this stage, we will keep this going. We are still due to have the lines re-marked, however, due to the rain over the last few weekends this has not happened yet. Hopefully we will get it sorted soon.

Finally, have a great weekend! I hope you all stay warm, dry and snuggled on the couch or if you prefer, get out there on your bike or hike in the mud and rain!

Small Business Shout Outs

Our Holy Rosary Community is home to many small businesses. And many of those businesses are struggling right now, so we’d like to support them where we can.

If you have a small business you would like to promote, please send through a picture with a short description of your business and/or a special offer toholyrosaryhelpers@gmail.com

We will then post a shout out on Facebook and in the weekly newsletter.

Every little bit helps at the moment, so if we can all remember our small business community when needing a product or a service I’m sure the support would be appreciated immensely.

Don’t forget we also have our small business directory that is available 24/7 via the website.

Let’s get behind our small business community!

Please keep supporting our school’s events and fundraisers!

Please click HERE for Holy Rosary Facebook page.

As a Parent Community we would love to see a culture of thinking Holy Rosary first! Please have a look through the directory to see what these businesses might be able to do for you. If you would like to be listed please contact Anita Carr at holyrosaryhelpers@gmail.com

It’s been such an interesting time in our library this term as we move towards our new normal. I hope to open the library at lunchtimes soon – with clean hands and a maximum numbers of patrons, and I am also hoping that Chess and year 5 Book Club can start this term too. Our 2020 Library Monitors are excited to welcome the students back and are ready to help our beautiful community. But for now, I have a disco to go to, so have a great weekend and see you next week!

Woolworths Cricket Blast Program

COVID restrictions lifted, we are thrilled to have the support of Cricket Australia in the resumption of our for 2020. The programs (Junior Blasters and Master Blasters) are designed for boys and girls between the ages of 4 and 10 and focuses on the basics of the game in a fun, COVID-safe environment, without the pressure of competition.

Both classes will be run on Monday afternoons at Seamer Indoor Sports Centre (5 Corbusier Pl, Balcatta) from 4:30pm - 5:30pm, under the watchful eyes of our experienced coaches - Nick Marciano and Ross Nesbitt.

We are encouraging all kids between the ages of 4 and 10 to come down for a FREE 'come and try day' on any Monday afternoon between now and the end of the term. Our indoor space can accommodate up to 200 people and we are well equipped with hospital grade hand sanitiser and cleaning products for your peace of mind.
