ASE Message from the Principal

Join us to learn about reopening ASE Fall 2020.

Message from Alexis Harmon, new principal of The Academy of Science and Entrepreneurship

Dear ASE Families,

I’m honored to be the new principal of the Academy of Science and Entrepreneurship. I’m excited to lead the teachers and serve ASE students and families as well as the larger Bloomington community. I’m a former MCCSC teacher and instructional coach, and most recently I served as a Career Pathway and STEAM coordinator for a neighboring school district. Creating regionally relevant learning experiences that bridge the gap between education and workforce have been a cornerstone of my professional career and I look forward to adding my knowledge to the collective expertise of the Academy.

I know we all have questions about the upcoming school year. My first priority as principal is to ensure a safe learning environment for all students and staff. We are preparing our building for this fall and our comprehensive, building specific Covid-19 plan will be available on July 15th. I’m here to listen to your concerns, and ensure, together, we develop the best way to meet the academic and social-emotional needs for your students. Please note that the Academy will NOT be on a hybrid schedule for Fall 2020, but will have in person learning for all students 5 days a week.

Over the next few months, I’ll be hosting a series of virtual online meetings for families, students and community members. I’ll use these meetings to share my goals for the Academy, provide information and updates about our transformation, and, of course, our reopening plans. I hope you’ll be able to join us. Our first virtual meeting will be on Wednesday, July 15th. I will offer a session at noon and an additional session at 5 pm. I will share our reopening plan at each meeting. In order to protect our online environment, we will need to email a Zoom invitation directly to those who would like to attend. To receive the Zoom invitation, please email me at aharmon@mccsc.edu.

The Academy is a unique gem in the Bloomington community and I’m looking forward to contributing to and advancing the great work of the Academy! Please reach out. I’d love to hear from you.

Sincerely,

Alexis Harmon

ASE Principal
