From the Principal's Desk
January 10
Greetings FWAFA Family,
I hope everyone had a relaxing and fun Winter Break. Students and teachers are settling back into the saddle, and it's going to be a swift pace during the 2nd semester with lots of performances, student learning, local and state assessment season, and school events. Hold on! Let's get ready to gallop!
The big news this week is that the PTSO Kids Take Over the School auction is happening next week. For those who are new to FWAFA, the Kids Take Over the School is a long-time tradition where teachers put themselves up for auction for students to take their place on the last day of the 4th six weeks. Teachers and their "mini-me" dress alike, eat the same food, and the student gets to teach the class. It is fun for everyone and proceeds go directly to support a school initiative. See details below.
Also, be sure to check your email today and tomorrow. Your student's teachers are sending out a Sign-Up Genius link where you can sign up for a 15 minute conference with the teacher on either January 18, 19, or 20. If you would like to meet with any of your student's teachers, be sure to sign up for this opportunity.
Creatively yours,
Dr. Jackson
Kids Take Over the School Auction
Kids Take Over the School is one of FWAFA's biggest traditions. If you are new to FWAFA, KTOS is a PTSO-sponsored fundraiser where teachers and staff auction themselves off for students to spend the day in their shoes.
Winning bidders might, for example, win a day with their favorite teacher, complete with a Starbucks drink of their choice and matching t-shirts. Proceeds from the auction directly benefit the school. KTOS is a great way to have fun, show your FWAFA spirit, and support the school. For more details and to get in on the action, check out our FWAFA PTSO Facebook page.
Volunteer Opportunities Through Voly.org
Due to technical difficulties at Student Council's High School Town Hall meeting a few weeks ago, the information regarding voly.org was not covered.
Voly.org is a volunteer website designed to help organizations and individuals locate volunteer opportunities and programs. It conveniently has organizational tabs to sort opportunities by cause, location, requirements, etc. Below is a screenshot with arrows pointing out some cool features the website has to make your volunteer-finding that much easier (save for later, location/organization, volunteer requirements/submit, number of volunteers still needed, sidebar filters).
If you would like to spend some of your time volunteering, Voly.org can help you find volunteer opportunities.
PTSO Directories
The PTSO Student Directories are back! For PTSO Members, they were distributed via your child's English teacher before the winter break; so check your child's backpack if you haven't received one.
There are extras for purchase for non-PTSO members or if members would like multiple copies.
$10.00 each is a bargain for all the work that went into them! Enjoy!
If you have questions about whether or not you should have received one, you may contact Ricki Klos at 512-773-7133.
Attendance Notes to attendance@fwafa.org
If your student is tardy or absent, please send notes to attendance@fwafa.org. Also, a student needs to bring in a doctor or parent note within 3 days after the absence for an unexcused absence.
