MP6: Feb 28 - March 13
Grading Guidelines
Marking Period 5 and 6
Marking Period 5 and Marking Period 6 use existing work and student performance through March 13, 2020
In an effort to allow students an opportunity to demonstrate mastery, students may request to resubmit major assignments from January 27-March 13 (case by case basis) until May 1, 2020. Please know, the intent and priority of this is to allow students the opportunity to earn credit for the course and a grade that reflects mastery.
Phase 3 – Through Phase 3 students will focus on extended learning of new essential skills.
Students will earn a “Complete” or “Incomplete” for demonstrating proficiency on Phase 3 essential skills.
Students can demonstrate learning through tasks, assignments, teacher-led discussions, or other methods of assessing content mastery as deemed appropriate by the teacher..
Information will be shared through Google Classroom. Students must log into Google Classroom daily for each course and complete posted activities and/or assignments.
Students must earn a “Complete” for Phase 3 essential skills to earn course credit
Parents must notify each teacher if they are choosing Pass/Incomplete, rather than the letter grade, by June 30, 2020 (Seniors) or by end of first semester 2020-21 SY (underclassmen).
Final Exams: There will be no final exam for credit-bearing classes this year.

Final grades in full year, 2 credit courses will be determined by the average of Marking Periods 1- 6, Exam 1 AND earning a “complete” in Phase 3.

Guidelines for student conduct
CPS Acceptable Use Policy for Technology
Check Google Classroom daily
Students are expected to log into Google Classrooms (GC) each day to view instructional activities, resources, and assignments. Due dates for assignments will be found here as well.
Participate in Google Meetings that have been established for YOUR classroom
Students may be invited to participate in Google Meetings through an official email from teachers, a link at the top of each GC, or a calendar invite.
Students may only attend Google Meetings for classes in which they are currently enrolled. Joining other classes is not permitted and may lead to disciplinary action.
All Google Meetings will be recorded. Students are expected to adhere to all school policies while attending all virtual meetings. Teachers may upload select Meetings to GC so any student who is unable to participate, may view the information presented at a later time.
Complete AND show mastery of all Phase 3 activities and assignments.
Students will earn a “Complete” or “Incomplete” for demonstrating proficiency on Phase 3 essential skills.
Students can demonstrate learning through tasks, assignments, teacher-led discussions, or other methods of assessing content mastery as deemed appropriate by the teacher..
Students must demonstrate mastery of essential skills introduced and assessed in Phase 3 in order to receive credit for the course, regardless of grades earned in Marking Period 05 and Marking Period 06.
The work in Phase 3 is required to show mastery. If it is not completed and there is no evidence that the essential skills for the course have been mastered, students will receive an incomplete. It is important to note that an incomplete may prevent seniors from graduating.
Synergy/StudentVue
Mastery of essential skills for each course will be documented through Synergy.
Students should check StudentVue daily to monitor progress.
Utilize Office Hours
Teachers are available to provide additional assistance each day during their office hours.
Students may email teachers to schedule an appointment unless otherwise noted on individual Google Classrooms.
We are here for YOU! If there are special circumstances that may prohibit you from completing assigned work, email your teacher and/or schedule an appointment to meet during office hours.
School counselors are available. Any student needing to reach out regarding course requirements or to discuss a specific concern should email the assigned counselor.
HHS Parent and Student Guide to Google Classroom
Google Classroom is the CPS platform for online learning.
Google Classroom is accessible via website , Chromebook, or with the Classroom app on Apple or Android tablets and phones.
This platform is secure as it is only accessible through students’ CPS Google accounts.
If students forget their CPS Google email addresses or passwords, they should contact their teachers.
Instruction on this platform is asynchronous. This means that students may access the assignments at any time and complete them during the week at their own pace.
Although teachers may provide times during which they are “live” on Google Classroom to answer student questions and provide extra help, students are not required to attend these live sessions.
Google Meet is an OPTIONAL resource for teachers
Although many teachers have chosen to hold office hours and present classroom instruction using Google Meet, it is an option and not a requirement.
Teachers will provide the link for student access to Meet in their Google Classrooms; however, there are other options for joining Meets students are invited to attend. For student safety, students may only access Meet with their CPS Google accounts.
Students using Google Meet may join without using video and may mute audio.
Since students are only allowed to join if they are using their CPS Google account, they are not anonymous. Please see CPS Google Meet Student Expectations.
CPS Phase 3 guidelines state that all instruction during this time is asynchronous.
Teachers who choose to provide new instruction via Google Meet will record the session and post it on their Google Classroom sites so that all students will have access to it during the week.
Teachers will post the video of instruction but not necessarily Google Meet office hours.
Teachers may invite parents to use Google Meet for online IEP meetings. The access codes for these meetings are private.
Google extensions are add-on features that enhance Google Applications in the Chrome browser. Below are a few CPS approved extensions.
Google Nod – This is a Google Meet add-on that allows students to provide feedback or raise their hands to get the teacher’s attention with a simple click instead of typing in the chat.
Screencastify- This is a Google Chrome add-on that allows you to create 5-minute presentations for free. (Longer video presentations require a subscription.) Students can use this to add narration to any presentation they turn in.
- Note Anywhere – Students may use this Google Chrome extension to make notes on any web page, in any position. When they open the page again, the notes are loaded automatically.
