Riverside Report
December 2020
A message from Mr. Kampmann
With only a few school days left before winter break I want to again thank everyone for your flexibility as we have continued to update our processes and procedures based on Marathon County Health Department’s recommendations. With modifications and adjustments over the past 4 months we have been able to provide in-person learning opportunities and some of our special Riverside events. Some of our past events and trips are listed below and I would encourage you to read about them. We are currently working on plans and modifications to our annual Riverside holiday sing-a-long, science fair, spelling bee, and other events that our students look forward to each year.
As we start to look forward to 2021 I wanted to keep you informed of some changes that will be occurring when students return to school:
- Construction in new additions will be wrapping up over winter break and we will have access to these new spaces as soon as final inspections are completed. We anticipate that the front office will be moved into our new space over winter break and students will be eating lunch in our new multi-purpose space when they return on 1/4/21. With this change all 4th and 5th graders will now enter and leave the building through our new main entrance. All other grade levels will continue to use their same entrance and exit doors.
- Eventually, we will get snow. When that does happen we will be monitoring and possibly closing the top drop off and pick up lane. When this occurs all drop off and pick up vehicles should enter our parking lot and wait along the median sidewalk area to drop off or pick up your riders. I would also ask all drivers, for the safety of our students and other motorists, not to make u turns on River Road after dropping off or picking up your children.
- At the end of the semester (Jan 21st) we will have some students who will be returning to Riverside from EVA and others who are leaving Riverside to go to EVA. Through all of these changes Riverside will only be adding a total of 4 students to our total in-person population but your child may have a new (former Riverside) child in their classroom. We will do our best to make this as smooth of a transition as possible for our students and their families.
- I would also like to remind parents that when a non-ill student is out of school due to quarantine or isolation the expectation is that students will log into their classroom teacher’s Canvas page, complete any assigned work, and participate in any scheduled WebEx meetings. This will help ensure that students can jump right back into classroom learning when they return. All students who are sent home by the school for isolation or quarantine will be coded in our attendance system as REM (Remote Learning). These days will not count against the student for regular attendance. Please know that our attendance policy has not changed. We are still asking parents to call their child(ren) into the office when they are absent. We need parents to bring in doctors notes for medical appointments and complete Pre-Arranged Absence forms when students will be gone for 3 or more days for a non-COVID related absence. If your child is going to be absent, please call 715-359-2417 and press 1 for the attendance voicemail by 9:00 a.m. If a family does not call to inform the school about a student’s absence, the school will make a reasonable attempt to reach a parent at home or at work. If the office is unable to contact a parent to get an explanation for an unreported absence, the absent child will be recorded as “unexcused.”
Again, thank you all for your flexibility this year and we wish you all a happy and healthy winter break.
Sincerely,
Kevin Kampmann

Family Holiday Sing-A-Long
Dear Riverside Families,
We are continuing the long-standing tradition at Riverside for our annual Holiday Sing-A-Long!! We encourage everyone to wear festive Holiday attire, lights, hats, etc. and join the whole school for a virtual extravaganza in lieu of our in-person concerts we have enjoyed in the past. Let’s experience the Holiday spirit together this year, and all you need are your voices, access to a computer or Ipad, and your families. Feel free to record yourselves singing along and share your experiences by using the Riverside hashtag: #riversidepride #everestpride
Date: Monday, December 21, 2020

CHESS
Riverside Is Searching for the Next Bobby Fischer
Fifth grade students have been learning how to play chess this year. As a matter of fact, they have logged hundreds of hours learning the pieces, how to checkmate, and advanced strategies in and out of school. It’s been great to see the excitement and hear students talking about this age-old game that teaches patience, perseverance, problem solving, and lots of humility.
Each quarter, we are going to crown our fifth grade Grandmaster. For the first quarter, class winners were:
Berry Homeroom: Kyan Slowikowski
Aleckson Homeroom: Garrett Parmer
Lorge/Hanke Homeroom: Mark Mykytsey
Hughes Homeroom: Chris Ferrario
Quarter 1 Grandmaster: Mark Mykytsey
