Mrs. Lasonia Russell

Dear Maverick Community -

It was so exciting to see each of you last night at Meet the Teacher! It's going to be a FABULOUS school year! To stay informed, please be sure to check our website or follow us on Facebook or twitter. Your child's classroom teacher will also share information on their newsletter.

Another way to stay informed and involved is to join our PTA or WATCH DOGS or ALL PRO DADS! We need your help to make things happen for our students and our school. Our PTA has two seats on the board still vacant and we would like for anyone interested in serving to email pta.independence@gmail.com. We are always in need of volunteers so please consider it. Click here to complete the district application to volunteer on any campus.

All Visitors will be asked to scan their driver’s license and wear a visitor sticker/tag at all times while on campus. Please understand that this is for the safety of every child in the building. We ask that you do this every single time you are visiting the campus during the school day. All Volunteers will be required to have a background check completed at the start of the school year. The volunteer link is above. We require all volunteers (including parents chaperoning field trips) to complete this.

Please read over the cellphone policy letter that is attached.

Mrs. Lori Strom

Welcome back Mavs! I hope you all had a great summer and are ready to be back in the swing of things. It was so great seeing familiar faces last night at Meet the Teacher! I am looking forward to a wonderful year at IES. Please reach out if your child has any needs or special concerns.

Arrival Tips:

Our school doors will open at 7:30 and students will be able to eat breakfast or report to class. There will be no supervision outside the school before 7:30am. Please help us to avoid safety concerns and send students to school no earlier than 7:30am. Let's set those alarms and do our BEST to be on time.

Dismissal Tips

Early dismissals will be permitted up until 2:45. This helps us to assist all students with preparing to go home. We appreciate your help with making plans in advance.

Safety is always a top priority. Please plan ahead when you have appointments and be courteous to one another when picking up and dropping off. We are a wonderful community with so much in common BUT the most important is that we each have children that attend IES. Let's all help make this a positive place where we all feel safe and welcomed.

If you are picking up your child by car, the right hand lane is for K-1 students the left hand lane is for 2-4 students. If you have students in both lanes, pick up in the younger students' lane. Please post the large sign with your child's name and teacher in your dashboard to help dismissal run smoothly. If your child is a North Walker (park) or a South Walker (pond), they will be released at the north or south ends of the building.

All vehicles leaving the parking lot must turn right off of Bray Birch to prevent backups.
