Hello, AGCS Families!
Whether we want to believe it or not, July is coming to a close and we recognize that with the start of August students and families begin to think about the upcoming school year. With this first correspondence, we have included important information and dates for your planning purposes. Starting the week of August 14th, you will receive a weekly email with a Smore from the office that will provide updates and information. We look forward to working with you this year!
A few things about grades K-3 at the Early Learning Center (ELC):
School begins on Monday, August 29, 2022.
School Hours: ELC has NEW, EXTENDED SCHOOL HOURS for the 2022-2023 School Year. The start of the day will remain the same with doors opening at 8:05 am, and instruction to start at 8:30 am. The end of our instructional day has moved to 3:15 pm, for an additional 30 minutes added to our school day. Our new school day hours are 8:30 am - 3:15 pm.
Carline begins at 8:05 am, and school doors open at 8:05 am. Students who arrive after 8:30 am will have to obtain a late pass by signing in with a parent at the front desk. All family members, students, and visitors will be required to use the front doors of the school after 8:30 am.
Bus Information: All bus information (pick-up/drop-off times) will be communicated by AGCS once it is received by the sending school district via Parent Portal and email. All questions regarding bus stops, and pick-up/drop-off times should be directed to your specific district.
Car Line Pick-up/Drop-off: Procedures for carline at ELC. Morning Arrival Times: 8:05 am to 8:30 am. Afternoon Car Line Pick-up Times at ELC 3:15 pm to 3:40 pm.
Summer Work and Classroom Supplies: These are posted on our school website.
AGCS Technology Program: At Avon Grove Charter School students in grades, 1-12 are issued their own Chromebook. By putting a computer in the hands of every student, learning can become flexible and personalized for staff and students through the connected integration of technology in the learning process. Complete the Acknowledgment/Permission for all students in PowerSchool Parent Portal. Students who do not have Chromebooks will receive them during orientation or the 1st week of school.
Student Handbook: The 2022-2023 Student Handbook will be posted on our website. Each AGCS student/family will be required to complete a digital Handbook Confirmation/Acknowledgment form in the PowerSchool parent portal.
School Forms: School forms will be available on the Parent Portal during the week of August 1st. Please complete and submit the forms prior to the first day of school.

New Students: Parents of new students to AGCS will receive their Parent Portal information including instructions on setting up the account via email. If you need assistance after receiving the email, please contact elcmainoffice@agcharter.org
Kindergarten students will have an iPad assigned to them that will remain in the classroom. New 1st-3rd students will receive their Chromebook at Meet & Greet (August 25th). Please be sure that the Technology Acknowledgment/Permission form is completed prior to attending.
ELC Picture Day: Picture Day will be on October 12, 2022, and October 13, 2022. Retakes are November 30, 2022.
Free and Reduced Lunch Application: Communication from Food Services Many of the food service procedures that were in place over the previous two school terms was a result of special COVID accommodations from the federal government. Many of those waivers have or will expire on June 30, 2022. Unfortunately, Congress did not earmark any money to approve the USDA to extend the waiver for the 2022-2023 school year, so the food service program will be different this coming school year. What this means to parents is that you will need to apply for free or reduced-priced benefits by completing a meal application after July 1. You may apply at www.schoolcafe.com, COMPASS, or by downloading a hard copy from the website. 2022-2023 applications will be available after July 1st.
Additional ELC Information:
Homeroom Teacher Notification: In order to view your child’s homeroom teacher you will need to access the Parent Portal. The release of student homerooms will occur in mid-August. Parents will receive an email notification the morning that schedules are released and a notice will be posted to the AGCS website.
ELC Meet & Greet Open House:
Kindergarten: Tuesday, August 23rd, 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
1st - 3rd Grade: Thursday, August 25th, 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
The Meet and Greet Open House provides an opportunity for students and families to meet the teacher(s), see their classroom(s), and bring school supplies. More specific information about both Meet & Greets to follow via email on August 14th.
Summer Happenings!
Mrs. Hendrickson and I will be out in the community this summer, hoping to say hello to you! If you are able to attend one of these events, we’d love to see you.

Early Learning Center Principals visit Rooted!
Back to School Night Babysitting!
The middle and high school cross country team, supervised by the coaching staff, will serve pizza and play games with the children while the parents/guardians participate in the Back to School Night activities. Be on the lookout in a future Smore for the Cheddar Up (by the AGCS Sports Boosters) to enroll your child(ren).
Dates: Thursday, September 8th, Thursday, September 15th, and Thursday, September 22nd
Time: 5:45 p.m. - 7:45 p.m.
Location: ELC cafeteria
Cost: $15 for one child and $10 for each additional sibling. The children must be of school age K-6.
