Oro Grande Classical Academy School Counseling Program
At Oro Grande we are building a pro-active, preventative school counseling program to benefit all students. We use the Toolbox Project curriculum for weekly classroom lessons. Many times we discuss our school's virtues as they relate to the tools. Below is a schedule of topics for the school year. If you ever have questions or comments, please contact Miss Martin. Contact information is at the end of this newsletter. Thank you!
Welcome Back!
The summer break from school is over, and we are back at it! Students have started their school year and are finding their way. One of the main things students are concerned about is making friends. During August, the counselor classroom lessons will focus on feelings. We will discuss what to do with our feelings and how this may affect others. The lessons introduce all 12 tools, which are listed below. In August, we take time to review all of them, or introduce all of them to the younger students, so students can begin to use the tools. Below is a list of the 12 tools. There are more hard copy resources of the tools. If you would like more information, just contact Miss Martin.
Kindness
At the beginning of the school year, the counselor lessons include the idea of kindness at each grade level's developmental level. We connect the tools to kindness and making friends. Sometimes puppet plays help the students understand the concepts. Other times children's literature is shared and discussed. Often times, real-life situations are reviewed in hopes that the students understand they can use the tools at school when different events arise.
