Building a Brighter Future, Edition 8 Sept. 17, 2021
First Things First...
As you begin receiving progress reports and monitoring your student's grades, please give your student some grace and understanding. Our community, and the entire world, really, has needs that need to be met before students will be able to flourish in academics. We recognize as educators that our emphasis needs to be on meeting social and emotional needs as well as continuing to work on school routines, procedures, taking risks and building confidence in order to be successful with our academics. If your student's teacher has immediate concerns about their academic status, please be assured they will get into contact with you so that together, you can help your child be successful.
Mrs. Crowther's Super Scientists
Mrs. Crowther's class learned about science tools and how to safely use them. They had a blast counting how many drops of water fit on a penny using eye droppers, practiced using a balance scale, searched with a hand lens, and the all time favorite-the Kool-Aid Fizz experiment. These little scientists even documented their observations from their experiments.

Remote Conferencing Opportunity for Isolated or Quarantined Students
Lago Vista ISD students may be eligible to participate in remote conferencing for attendance purposes in the event they are unable to attend face-to-face instruction on campus. Students are eligible for remote conferencing if both of the following requirements are met:
The student is unable to attend school because of a temporary medical condition; AND
The total amount of remote conferencing does not exceed more than 20 instructional days over the entirety of the school year.
A student who is absent due to other reasons not listed above will not qualify to participate in remote conferencing and will be marked absent each day he/she is not physically present in school.
In addition to the two requirements above, one of the following requirements must also be met:
The student’s temporary medical condition is documented by a physician licensed to practice in the United States; OR
The student has a positive test result for a communicable condition (such as COVID-19); OR
The student has been identified as having been in close contact with COVID-19.
Students in remote conferencing instruction will continue to work on class assignments via Seesaw, Google Classroom, or Canvas, and receive synchronous (live) assistance from a designated Remote Conferencing teacher. To the extent possible, a dedicated certified teacher will be designated to provide remote conferencing throughout the duration of students’ time in this setting, but it will not be the students’ teacher of record. In addition to working on assignments, students will be required to attend daily attendance meetings that will count for the day’s attendance and keep your child within the 90% attendance rule while out temporarily.
You will be notified by ParentLink with specific remote conferencing instructions and Google Meet links if your child qualifies for this temporary opportunity. If your child receives a close contact notification from the school, there will be a link to a form to complete if you wish for your child to participate in remote conferencing.
COVID Questions Answered
A: Either bring in a hard copy of the negative results to Marcy in the front office, or email them to the school at regina_carmichael@lagovista.txed.net. Once the results are confirmed to have been received, your student is good to return to school!
Q: How will I know if my student has been exposed?
A: If your student is determined to be a close contact of a student who has tested positive for COVID, you will be personally notified. If your child is in the same grade level as a student who has tested positive, you will receive an email.
Q: Are masks required?
A: LVISD does not require students, parents, teachers, staff members or visitors to wear masks or face coverings while on district premises. However, the wearing of face masks is allowed and is highly encouraged.
Q: Can I choose for my child to do at-home/remote learning this year?
A: The state has not provided for a funded remote instruction option this school year. Students not at school will be under normal attendance requirements. Exceptions to this are students who are isolated because of a positive COVID result or who are quarantined due to being a COVID close contact.

PTO News
The LVES Parent Teacher Organization creates opportunities for parents, teachers, and students to learn, socialize, communicate, and grow!
Our non-profit organization is dependent on monetary donations to supply our school with everything the children need to have an amazing and above average elementary school experience. Funds raised go directly to the requests of our teachers and staff to enhance classroom materials and our student’s learning environment. We also host some exciting extracurricular events to bring students and their families together outside of school hours! By becoming a member of the PTO you are showing your support and school spirit for Lago Vista Elementary.

Each month our PTO Provides a Teacher Hospitality Event to thank them for caring for our children and for all of their hard work, this includes their favorite Sonic Drinks, snacks or a small meal, goody bags or trinkets, gift cards and more. Our PTO Volunteers have been amazing at providing these donations. But we would like to ask our parents, where you can, to help contribute to the funds we need to supply them with these treats!
