Table Talk
Reading
Theme: Friendship
Essential Question: How do friends depend on each other?
Last Week:
We read Help! A Story of Friendship. We continued to identify story elements (characters, setting, problem, and solution) We also identified how characters from the story depend on each other and respond to major events in the story.
This Week:
We will read Sled Dogs. We will describe how the beginning introduces the story and the end concludes a story. We will also describe how characters respond to major events in a story. We will identify what a blurb is and list the elements in a blurb. We will then end unit one by writing a blurb for one of the stories that we have read.
Spelling/Phonics
Last Week:
We learned about the short i sound spelled i and the long i sound spelled i consonant e.
This Week:
We will be learning about the short o spelled o and the long o spelled o consonant e.
Homework:
Choose one menu item each night or create your own activity and write what you did in your spelling notebook. On Thursday have your child/children practice their spelling words to prepare for the test. While preparing for the test have your child practice writing several of the words in a complete sentence.
Test:
Last Weeks Test:
I used high frequency words that were not on the list. The students were not graded on these words.
The spelling test will consist of 5 words from the spelling list given, 2 words that the students will apply new and old skills, and 3 high frequency words from the list given. The words are graded for accuracy and capitalization. The students are also required to choose one word from the test and use it in a meaningful sentence. The sentence is graded for CAPSS (capitalization, appearance, punctuation, spelling, and sense).
Grammar/Writing
Last Week:
Grammar: We added 's to make a possessive noun and expanded sentences by adding detail to the subject and or predicate.
Writing: We learned how to revise our writing by adding, deleting, and changing words. We will also learn how to edit our work using a CAPSS (capitalization, appearance, punctuation, spelling, and sense) checklist.
This Week:
Grammar: This week we learn how to add inflectional endings (ed and ing) to change the tense of a verb. We will also learn how to place commas when writing a series of things.
Writing: We will continue to revise and edit our work to revise our writing. We will also begin to publish our first piece of writing.
Health
Last Week:
We learned about our feelings and emotions and how to deal with all emotions in a healthful way. We also discussed the characteristics of a friend and them importance of showing respect.
This Week:
We will be learning how to apologize. We will spend some of the week working on anti-bulling activities. Each day we will wear a color to represent a word.

Friday - Purple (Positivity)

Birthday Celebration
Our October birthday celebration was a so much fun. We celebrated Jack T.'s birthday. He shared a fun version of tic-tac-toe and gave the students goodie bags.
Our November birthday celebration will be on Thursday, November 5th (3:00-3:30). We will celebrate the birthdays of Caleb, Andrew, Ryan, and Adeline. Parents are welcome to come celebrate. If your child would like to bring in something to share with the class, we are requesting indoor/outdoor recess equipment, books, crafts, etc.
