December 2017
Superintendent - Brad Gudme
Over the past several weeks, and leading up to Christmas, the Community of Memphis along with Memphis Jr/Sr HS and Memphis Elementary, have adopted multiple Memphis Community Schools’ families to help assist and provide food and gifts to them.
Organizations such as Holy Family Church, St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, Memphis Free Methodist Church, Grace Engineering, Memphis Police and Fire Department, Meijer of Marysville, our local families and the District have pulled together to help 38 families have a brighter Holiday Season.
Before Thanksgiving, Holy Family provided 24 families with a full Thanksgiving dinner. Items included a full turkey, potatoes, stuffing, corn, squash, rolls and butter and a pie. Other ancillary items such as diapers, paper towel, and toilet paper were also provided. Holy Family will again be providing meals leading up to the Christmas Holiday season as well.
All of our amazing community groups have also helped to donate and purchase gifts for our families to ensure that our students have a very merry Christmas. Thanks to their generosity 22 families will be provided with presents for the Holiday Season.
Chief Kolke, along with the Memphis Police Department, has received donations of over $2000 to allow them to adopt 12 students to take part in the “Shop with a Cop” program this season. Meijer and Mainstreet Tatoo of Memphis, have contributed another $1500 dollars to provide food and wrapping paper for these families. The St. Clair County Sheriff Department has also adopted a Memphis family to participate in the “Shop with a Cop” program.
Every Holiday Season, there are thousands of families all across the United States that experience some type of hardship that prevents them from having an enjoyable Christmas Season. The generous donations from our community has again enabled us to do our part to assist families in our Community.
A big thank you goes out to DJ Goddard and Kim Gaedcke for all their hard work over the years, and Thanks to each individual involved for your continued support to Memphis Community Schools and our families, your generosity is truly appreciated!

The Junior High Life Skills class gives back
Ms. Smith's JH Life Skills classes are crocheting sleeping mats that will be donated to a homeless shelter. The mats are made using recycled plastic shopping bags. The bags are cut and looped together to create a string of plastic yarn (a.k.a. plarn). Each mat takes from 500 to 700 shopping bags to make. Mats will be about 3 ft. wide by 6 ft. long when finished. Students work in cooperative teams of 4-5 people and rotate jobs so that every student to participate in each step of the process.
