2022-23 Office Hours – FAQ
What are office hours?
It is our campus-wide Academic Intervention Program. Office Hours are designed for the teacher and student to use this specific time for the purpose of re-teaching, tutoring, study groups, make-ups, and enrichment.
If a teacher tells me I am invited to their office hours, do I have to go?
Yes, we will be tracking if students attend invitations. That teacher or an assistant principal will follow up on non-attendees.
What if two or more teachers invite me to office hours?
Contact the teachers and let them know, maybe a teacher can adjust the day, (ask all of the teachers) communicating with the instructors is the key.
Where can I go if I am not invited?
A student can go to any of their teachers’ classes that are available, students who self-select office hours locations must attend office hours hosted by one of your six teachers unless they have a Shark Scholars sticker or have been assigned a different teacher. Hanging out with friends is not a priority of the teachers or the purpose of office hours. The teacher of that class sets the rules and that teacher may not let you back into their class if you display bad behavior. PE will only be open to current PE students and make-ups.
If you qualify, you can receive a “Shark Scholar” sticker on your ID that grants you access to enrichment areas; library, shark tank, computer labs, theater for presentations, and other areas that may be used for enrichment. Freshmen do not qualify until after the first quarter grades post.
All students will plan where they will go ahead of time, on Wednesday, and plan options.
Can I get in trouble during office hours?
Yes, although office hours are not punitive, your behavior during office hours is subject to all school rules and the direction of all adults on campus.
How will attendance be tracked?
Your ID will be scanned in the classroom, you must have your ID for this process.
Can I get a tardy during office hours?
Yes, but it is different. All students are encouraged to quickly find a place to be, you can stay put in the first block, go to your teachers, or open rooms – plan ahead on Monday through Wednesday where you will go. Some teachers will have sign-ups. Students who do not find a place to go in a timely manner will be a part of a “round up” and could be subject to disciplinary action, or assignment to teachers.
Where can I check for ideas to plan where I can go during office hours?
The best places to check would be in your own teachers’ classrooms. The teacher usually posts what’s happening on the doors, some do it also inside or announce what they will do.
