Message from Ms. Perkins:
We will recognize our students who have demonstrated great citizenship and earned Principal Honor and Honor Roll in 1st through 5th grade. To ensure social distancing students and teachers will be present and parents will be able to view the awards via Zoom. The dates and times are listed below. Zoom links to the awards programs will be posted to our school website and teacher eCLASS course pages on Monday, May 17, 2021.
The fifth grade celebration will be held here at Simonton ES over two days. Each student may have two guests in attendance. Please see the special invitation below for more details. Zoom links to the celebration will also be posted on the school website.
Device collection will begin on Monday, May 24, 2021. If you have borrowed a chromebook/Laptop or hotspot, plan to bring them to Simonton ES on the designated days. Evening hours will also be available.

Device Return
As we approach the end of the 2020-21 school year, we want to communicate our plan for device return to our school and device checkout for summer learning. All devices checked out to students must be checked back in to the local school at the end of the 2020-21 school year so that tech teams can begin preparing the devices for summer learning activities and the coming school year. If your student has a school-owned chromebook, laptop, hot spot, or other device, please plan to return the device on the designated date and time listed below:
Monday, May 24th
9:00 am- 2:00 pm, 3:30 pm- 6:00 pm
Tuesday, May 25th
7:00- 7:45 am
9:00 am- 2:00 pm
When returning your device, please bring all components, including chargers; have the device fully charged and powered on in order to expedite the return process.
**Devices will be assessed for damage upon return and fines may be assigned based on the damage in order to cover the cost of replacement parts and repairs. Fines can be paid by credit or debit card, cash, or check at the time of the return. If a device is returned in good condition, no fine will be assigned. Device services will be turned off and fines for replacing the device will be assigned if a device is not returned.

End of the Year Announcements:
- Report cards will be sent home with all In-Person students on the last day of school. Any certificates earned will be located in the folder as well.
- Report cards of our Digital students will be mailed out. Please check your mailbox the following week.
- For those students that return their device on Monday, May 24th or Tuesday, May 25th, your teacher will work with you regarding the last few days of school when you are without a computer.

Tails & Tales: Summer Reading Challenge 2021
June 1 to August 13
To participate in this year’s challenge, visit gwinnettpl.beanstack.org/reader365, and log into your existing Beanstack account or sign up for a new one if you’re a first time user. Pre-registration for the 2021 Challenge will begin on May 1st.
Whether you use Beanstack through a web browser or through the app, you’ll be able to log minutes, earn virtual badges, discover cool videos, and more all summer long. And if you can stop by one of our library branches and visit us during the summer, be sure to pick up your very own Summer Reading Challenge welcome pack.
GCPS Book Mobile Summer Routes
CPS Book Mobile summer routes are now available and the flyers are attached below. The Book Mobile website (www.gcpsbookmobile.org) has also been updated to include the route flyers.
The Explore and Pow Book Mobiles will be operating six days each week this summer beginning on Tuesday, June 1st.

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION
We're looking forward to welcoming our new kindergarten students in the 2021-22 school year! Online registration for new kindergartners is now open!
WHO: Parents or guardians of rising kindergartners—children who will be five years old on or before September 1, 2021.
WHAT: Register your child for the 2021-22 school year in an easy, two-step process.
WHEN: April 6 to May 28 (Online registration begins April 6, and local school registration appointments will be available from April 12 to May 28.)
WHY: Completing online registration will help us be ready to welcome your new kindergartner and make sure your child is eligible for summer enrichment activities.
HOW: Much of the registration process, including the uploading of documents needed for registration, will be completed online. Most document attachments (PDF, JPG, DOC, PNG, etc.) are compatible. The file-size limit is 2 MB.
WHERE: Step 1—Complete online registration on the GCPS website, starting Tuesday, April 6.
Step 2—Between April 12 and May 28, schedule an appointment with your child’s new school to verify information, complete a kindergarten readiness profile, pick up materials to help prepare your child for school, and learn about exciting summer enrichment opportunities for your new kindergartner! Check the website of your child’s new school to learn more. If you’re not sure which school your child will attend, go to “Find My School” on the district website.

Summer Enrichment and Acceleration
At this time, letters have been sent home with students who have been offered the opportunity to attend this year's Summer Enrichment and Acceleration (SEA) program. If you have not received a letter, your child has not been invited to attend our in-person SEA program. If the event that a spot opens and you are interested in your child attending, please complete the attached survey. You will be contacted via e-mail if a spot opens for your child.

APPLICATION: FAMILIES OF CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS REIMBURSEMENT
The Governor’s Office, the Governor's Office of Planning and Budget, and the Georgia Department of Education have worked in recent months to determine the best way to help those most severely impacted in a population of over 222,000 students with special needs throughout the state. Ten million dollars has been designated to assist these students with the highest needs for expenses incurred due to school closings during the pandemic.
Expenses that have been identified as eligible for reimbursement are those that are necessary to meet the challenges these students face regarding educational achievement, personal development, and emotional wellbeing. All information related to the application process is included in the link below. Completed applications are due by May 14, 2021.
Please note that parents are required to submit their child's GTID as a part of the application process. Parents may reach out to their local to schools to obtain this information.

What: Each state is required to conduct a parent survey to measure parent/family perceptions of the success of parent engagement between home and local schools. As of 5/3/2021 results have yielded the following:

Where: Parents continue to have access to complete the survey via the survey link below. We ask that you ensure the letter(s) and survey link are posted on your special education teachers’ e-class pages as well as your school website. Our goal is to ensure that all parents are aware of the survey and have the opportunity to participate.
