SAS Update
October 18, 2019
Halloween Pancake Breakfast Tix
All families should have received their five $5 tickets to the Oct. 26 Halloween Pancake Breakfast today (Middle Schoolers may not get them until Monday since returning late from Holy Fire). You paid for these upfront with your fundraising fee, and can use them yourself for the breakfast or re-sell them to earn your $25 back. If you need more, they are now available in the Parish Office and will also be at the door the morning of the breakfast. Remember, all funds raised go toward field trips for our children, so be sure to tell everyone you know and bring them along! Please share on social media as well; the Facebook event can be found here.

Candy Contest
MONDAY, OCTOBER 21 - FRIDAY, OCTOBER 25
Our classrooms are collecting bags of individually wrapped candy for distribution at Trunk or Treat! Next week, we will begin weighing all contributions by grade, and the class that brings in the most candy by weight will win a CLASS DRESS DOWN DAY! Be sure to mark your donations IN SHARPIE with the grade you want credited. Watch our Facebook page for updates and standings!
We Go N.U.T.S for Your Delicious Halloween Treats!
ALL students who donate baked goods for the Halloween Pancake Breakfast bake sale will receive a N.U.T. card for a special day out of uniform! Please send in home-baked goodies to school with your children on Friday, October 25. You can also drop off your contributions to the Parish Office until 3:00 p.m. Friday, or bring them with you to the breakfast on Saturday morning. All contributions should be clearly marked that they are for the Halloween Breakfast Bake Sale (there is also a Junior High dance on Friday night, so we don't want to confuse them).
Pancake Breakfast Volunteers
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 26, 8:00 - 11:00 a.m.
We still need help with our 10th annual Halloween Pancake Breakfast with the Lansing Copper Muggers! The Copper Muggers provide all of the food and cooking/serving labor at NO COST to us--their mission is to help worthy organizations raise needed funds. In our case, all of the money we make on the breakfast goes to cover field trip expenses for our students. The more we make, the more places they can go! And since we don't have to cook or serve, we are free to run a bake sale and sell raffle tickets to bring in even more money. So we need people to sign up for several committees and shifts at the breakfast, which you will find at the Signup link: Decorating, Bake Sale, and Raffle Baskets. There's also a NUT card in it for any students whose families contribute baked goods! (see below)
Bricks 4 Kidz
Session One will be ending next week, and Session Two will run from October 30 - December 11 (with no class on November 27 for the Thanksgiving Break). Bricks 4 Kidz at St. Ann is for K-6th graders, meets on Wednesdays from 3-4:00 p.m. and costs $60 per session. This STEM activity fills up fast, so register soon online here! The new theme is "Interesting Inventions." Most objects we use on a daily basis were invented by someone. Find out the origins of things like the hand mixer, windshield wipers, and conveyor belts. During this unit, students will discuss the difference between an invention and a discovery, learn how inventions solve problems, and find out how inventors get their ideas patented. Students are encouraged to think of what they could invent, or improvements they could make to an existing object to solve a problem. So many things we use each day are someone?s invention. Introduce your child to the world of ideas, creativity, inventions and patents.Using Bricks 4 Kidz models and LEGO ® bricks we will construct different familiar objects such as a hand mixer, windshield wipers and a conveyor belt. Each model is motorized for maximum movement and fascination! Start creating!
Pot of Gold Tickets
Win $500 in November! Your child should have brought home an envelope containing your Pot of Gold tickets a few weeks ago. You have already paid for these through your Fundraising Fee--we just need you to fill out the stubs and return them so you will be in the first Early Bird Drawing on November 24. If you want to try to resell them, you simply need to fill in the name of your purchaser (with your name on the back as seller). Your buyer will pay you, and you keep that money. Don't delay, or you'll miss a chance at $500 in the Early Bird!
Please Make Sure Your Students Have Their Supplies Every Day!
All 4th through 8th graders need to be sure to bring their Chromebooks to school with them every single day. They should be all charged and ready to go. Additionally, they should all have an inexpensive calculator to use.
Trunk or Treat and the Chili Cook-Off Will Be Here Before We Know It!
If you want to participate by decorating your trunk and handing out goodies, or by competing in the Chili Cook-Off, please register at the Car Sign-Up and Chili Cook-Off link. If you'd rather be a general helper or sign your 8th Grader up to work for Confirmation hours, the Trunk or Treat link is the place for you!
Chili Cook-Off at Trunk or Treat
Is your chili the best? Now's your chance to prove it! Register at the Signup Link to be one of a dozen contestants who will compete in our first-ever Chili Cook-Off for bragging rights (and a prize!). Entry fee is only $10 and a large crock of your famous chili (made at home and brought in something in which you can keep it warm). Tasters will pay $5, and we will provide tasting bowls and spoons. We will have local celebrity judges, and tasters will also vote for a fan favorite. Bring on the chili!
Garden Club Update
We are very excited about how popular our Garden Club has become! Unfortunately, we have grown so large that we must close off further registration for the remainder of the year so we can best accommodate our current members.
For those currently enrolled, we will break for the winter beginning December 19 and will resume our weekly Wednesdays on March 5 through the end of the school year. Thank you!

Golden Garbage
Did you know you can save the codes from your favorite Coca Cola products and donate them to SAS? Inside the cardboard cases and plastic bottle tops are codes that you can enter at the Coca Cola Give website on our behalf. Click on Donate to Your Local School, type in 60438 in the search bar, and find St. Ann School - Lansing in the drop down menu (you may need to hit Load More at the bottom of the list to find us). Then simply enter the codes you find in the bottle caps and cardboard cases of your Coke products. Ask friends and family to save their Coke codes for you, too. Thank you!
