About Evergreen:
Evergreen the squirrel is afraid of many things: thunder, hawks, and the dark paths of Buckthorn Forest. But when her mother tasks Evergreen with delivering soup to her sick Granny Oak, the little squirrel must face her fears and make the journey. Along the way, Evergreen is met by other forest dwellers - some want to help her, but some want her mother's delicious soup! It's up to Evergreen to stay the course, and those who help her will surprise and delight young readers.

Erin's Law Presentation by Victor Pacini
Erin’s Law, House Bill 6193 was signed by Governor Pat Quinn on January 24, 2013. This law requires schools to implement an age-appropriate sexual assault and abuse awareness and prevention curriculum for grades Pre-K through 12. We have purchased the “Be Seen and Be Heard 2.0” video program from Victor Pacini, a survivor of sexual abuse, an author, songwriter, singer, and motivational speaker. Mr. Pacini has assisted our schools in implementing this mandate for the past eight years.
Mr. Pacini’s program is developmentally appropriate, interactive, and aligned with learning standards. The focus of his presentation is to teach children basic skills to keep them safe from dangerous or abusive situations. Parents who may wish to view an overview of the program can click here or the button below. Wescott students will view Mr. Pacini’s recorded program on Monday, February 6.
Requests to Opt-Out for Wescott: If you prefer that your child opt-out of this prevention education session, please email your child’s classroom teacher.
Illinois 5Essentials Survey Runs through March 31
Students and teachers across Illinois now have an opportunity to participate in the 11th annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of your child’s school. As a parent, this opportunity will allow you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness in a survey about your child’s school.
On behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey will be administered online by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago. The survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains. These five indicators that affect and predict school success are:
Effective Leaders
Collaborative Teachers
Involved Families
Supportive Environments
Ambitious Instruction
Your participation in the parent portion of the survey will help us understand the conditions at your child’s school and guide improvement. Your identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child.
The Illinois 5Essentials Survey for students and teachers will be conducted January 24through March 31. The Parent Survey Supplement will be conducted during that same timeframe. To take the survey please click here or the button below and select the appropriate survey to begin.
For more information about the Illinois 5Essentials Survey, or to view previous years’ Reports, please click here. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact UChicago Impact Client Services at 1-866-440-1874 or impact-surveys@uchicago.edu.
