Assessment Practices - Tip of the Week:
Descriptive feedback points out to students their work's strengths and weaknesses before it is too late - before the final grade - and models the kind of thinking we want them to do themselves about their work. If students have become familiar with the language of rubric, we can use that language as the basis for descriptive feedback. If we are focusing on one trait at a time, we only need to give descriptive feedback on that one trait. This has the effect of narrowing the scope of work for both the teacher and the student. With struggling students, we can show them they do indeed know some things and we can limit the things they need to work on at one time to a less daunting, more manageable number. Our feedback may be verbal, such as that given in a brief student-teacher conference, or we may choose to offer written feedback.
SPOT Recognition:
Please access the SPOT link If you want to recognize a colleague for being Supportive, Positive, Outstanding, or a Team Player.
Staff Intent Forms - 2016/17:
A reminder...Below you will find the appropriate intent form for your area. Click the link that pertains to your position and fill out the form in its entirety. This new on-line version will replace all of the paper forms we have completed in the past. It is essential for our planning purposes that everyone fills out their corresponding form NO LATER THAN March 15th.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, let me know.
Parent/Teacher Conferences:
Our next P/T conference is scheduled for Thursday, February 11. Conferences begin at 4:05pm. Our dinner plans for February 11 include sheet pizza with beverages, sides, tableware, and desserts coordinated through team leaders.
Ohio Middle School Association:
I have recently renewed our building's membership to the Ohio Middle School Association. As a building, staff members have access to professional development opportunities in and around our area at no cost to the District. You can access the Ohio Middle School Association HERE!
You can also access information on the OMSA state conference in Cincinnati on October 27 & 28 on the Ohio Middle School Association website.
