Why Read 20 Minutes at Home?

Reading at home is one of the most important things a child can do to help themselves succeed in school and life. Please view the attached chart to discover just how important it is.

What We Are Learning This Week

Reading: We are learning how to determine theme of a book and practicing using context clues to help improve comprehension. We are starting new book club books on Tuesday.

Writing: We are revising, editing, and publishing our narratives.

Social Studies: We are practicing using map skills and learning about landforms.

Math: In math we are decomposing , adding, subtracting and finding equivalent fractions.

Science: We are wrapping up our ELM plant unit by creating a plant that could survive in North Texas.

Canned Fruit Drive/Book Character Dress Up Day

The Bennett Student Council will be collecting canned fruit for the McKinney Food Pantry from October 13th-24th. The student and class that brings the most canned fruit will win a t-shirt provided by the McKinney Food Pantry. The class that brings the most cans wins a gift card for their teacher to use on items for their classroom. Any student that participates in the canned fruit drive by bringing a can of fruit will be able to dress up as their favorite book character on October 30th. Please see the attached flyer below.

Red Ribbon Week October 19th through the 23rd

Please join us in supporting our students to be drug free for life by participating in Red Ribbon week.


Monday the 19th: Crazy hair day and wear red

Yearbook Cover Contest

Submit a Superhero themed cover to the office by October 30th, for the annual Bennett Elementary Yearbook Cover Contest. There will be one winner for each grade level, and one grand prize winner. The grand prize winner's picture will be on the cover of the 2015-2016 yearbook. All submissions must be on 8 1/2 x 11 paper.
