Field Flash
March 4, 2022
Dear Field Parents and Guardians,
We hope that you have had a nice week! As we move closer into March, we begin to prepare for the 2022-2023 school year. Each year, we provide parents an opportunity to share information about their child(ren), how they learn best, and preferences about peers in their classroom. If you are interested in sharing information, please use this form. You are able to complete this form until April 1st. Thank you for your partnership!
One of our social workers, Mrs. Chesney, shared this helpful article, and I wanted to pass it along to all of you. It's called "What to say to kids when the news is scary." This may your conversations at home, if your children see or hear news coverage of the war in Ukraine. If your child needs support, please feel free to each out to our social work team here at Field.
A few reminders:
- Weather: Please be sure your child continues to dress for the weather each day. We instruct students to wear the outdoor gear that their grown-up has sent them to school with that day. Please be sure your child is dressed for outdoor recess. As always, label items, please!
- CARES tickets: as part of our building-wise positive behavior system, students can earn CARES tickets. Each Friday, each classroom selects a winning ticket and that student comes down to the office for a small prize. We are so proud of our students and their excellent respectful and responsible behavior! Ask your child about the first step to problem solving - say the problem!
- Kiss and Go reminders: Please remember that the Kiss and Go areas are intended for quick drop offs. Adults should remain in the car and students should exit quickly. Please also remember that our parking lot is not available for drop off.
- New Student Registration is open! Please be sure to register your incoming kindergartener as soon as you can.
- No school on Friday, March 11th
- A note to 5th grade parents: if you have not filled out the google form (here is the Link) from Emerson for World Language choice, please do so. Parents can also email Theresa Simonetti directly at tsimonetti@d64.org with questions; please include the name of your student, their school, and their language choice. The deadline was extended though March 4th.
I also want to remind you that our lunch plans change on Monday. All students will eat lunch in one of our three large group spaces using our lunch tables. Students will be able to select their seat and sit by homeroom.
I hope you have a safe and healthy weekend!
Sincerely,
Dr. Courtney Goodman
Principal
IAR schedule - Help your child be ready
The Illinois Assessment of Readiness Test, an assessment for all students in Illinois, will be administered in District 64 from March 28-April 8.
The best preparation for the IAR has been the quality instruction our teachers have provided this school year. However, there are things you can also do to promote your child’s success:
Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and eats a healthy breakfast before each day of testing.
Provide your child with words of encouragement. While we don’t want our students to feel anxious about any assessment, we do want them to do their best.
The IAR is an online assessment and students will be using their Chromebooks to complete these tests. Please make sure your child brings his or her Chromebook to school each day, fully charged.
Below is our school’s schedule for test administration:
Tuesday, March 29: ELA Test 1
Wednesday, March 30: ELA Test 2
Thursday, March 31: Math Test 1
Friday, April 1: Math Test 2
Monday, April 4: Math Test 3
Tuesday, April 5: ELA Test 3
If you would like to learn more about the IAR tests, sample tests are available for your review. Thank you for your support in helping your child be prepared for upcoming testing.
Construction updates for Arrival & Dismissal
Beginning March 14th, some of our arrival and dismissal procedures will change in preparation for our construction. While construction is slated to begin during spring break, we are using the week of March 14th to transition to our new routines for arrival and dismissal (as well as recess and classroom locations).
Kindergarteners and first graders will now arrive through the main entrance. In order to alleviate crowding, we'll have our kindergartener and our first graders enter the building on a rolling basis, beginning at 8:35 a.m. when our door supervisors arrive. All kindergarteners and first graders will dismiss through the main entrance too. This applies to both AM and PM kindergarteners.
All other locations for arrival and dismissal remain the same, with a slight adjustment to 3rd grade's line up location. 3rd grade will line up near the basketball courts, right behind 2nd grade but facing their usual entrance door. This is due to fencing that will be on the blacktop.
I've included maps and arrival/dismissal reminders below.
While March-June will create some challenges for us space-wise, we are thrilled to welcome students to full-day kindergarten in the fall. Thank you in advance for your flexibility as we make these necessary adjustments this March-June.

IN-PERSON LUNCHTIME CHESS IS BACK AT FIELD!
Chess-Ed is excited to return to Field School in-person to provide lunchtime chess instruction this Spring. The 8-week program runs from 3/28/22 to 5/16/22 and takes place on Mondays from 11:40 am to 12:35 pm (during lunch). The program is open to Field students in all grades and of all chess abilities. Professional instruction will include the basics for beginner and novice players and build with opening theory, middle game planning, and end game combinations for continuing students. Playing chess improves memory, uses analytical and critical thinking skills, teaches problem solving, responsibility, sportsmanship, social skills and more! The benefits of chess last a lifetime!
Let's Be Idle Free
As the weather gets colder, Field School Green Team & Scouts would like to remind you to not idle (let your car's engine run while parked) during pick up and drop off. Turn the Key and be Idle Free- It's better for your car/gas bill, the students' health, and our environment. Check out the Scout's video for more information.
Yearbook-Pic of the Month: February Future Champions
