Joan of Arc ( Maid of Orleans )

Born in 1412 in Domremy, France. Died May 30, 1431 in Rouen, France

Joan of Arc was a young hero of the Middle Ages and lived a short, but eventful life.She claimed that she could speak to god and was widely disbalieved. People today think she might have been schizophrenic but we are not sure. She lead troops into battle at the Battle of Orleans and won, however she did not fight at all. She was given the nickname, "The Maid of Orleans" for her terrific victory. She was captured by English troops in 1431 in Rouen, France and was tried for many crimes, one of them being her wearing pants, which was punishable by death.

King John

Born: December 24, 1167 Died: October 19, 1216

King John was the Youngest son of King Henry II. His Nephew had stronger claim to the throne, so John had him killed so he could be King. He was forced to accept a document know as the Magna Carta, because if he didnt accept it, they would kill him. The Magna Carta made it so John couldnt take taxes from nobles without their consent, and also so he couldnt take propety without paying for it. He was such a bad king, that nobles joined together against him.

William The Conqueror ( William the Bastard )

Normandy, England 1028-1087

 Was originally the Duke of Normandy, but became king after his father died. He ruled England from 1066-1087. He is called a bastard because his parents were not married when he was born. He reshaped the feudal system, so that the king, not the nobles, had power. In his rule he crossed the English channel, and defeated Harrold at the Battle of Hastings. He changed his name to William the Conqueror after he defeated the Anglo-Saxons.
