Self-Reflection
You may have heard me tell students, "If we know better we have an obligation to do better." I believe this holds true for our instruction, also.
Among the responsibilities of a campus administrator is to help teachers discover areas of strength as well as areas of growth. We make note of such on your walkthroughs but we also like to see as many full-length lessons as we can. We want everyone to reflect on their instruction and we need your help.
Some of you have already had Mr. Johnson or Ms. Rising record you in class. We want to continue with this practice but we want everyone to record themselves. Next semester, every teacher will record themselves teaching two lessons. You will use your phone or you may borrow a camera from Dr. Holmgreen, or ask for someone to record you. If you would like to use a tripod, let me know. I have one that has a remote device for starting and stopping recording.
We want you to reflect on what you see yourself doing and we will do the same when we view the lesson.
IMPORTANT: Do not stress over this! It is not a gotcha. There is nothing additional that you have to do. Other campuses in the district did this last year and shared how beneficial it was for them.
Who knows, you may eventually want to record yourself and upload the lesson to your own Google Classroom. Your students can view it if they have been absent or just want to reinforce what they worked on in class. You could even create a department classroom and everyone in the department can take turns uploading lessons. (Our 7th grade math department is doing this already).
Again, do not stress over this. Please see me, Mr. Johnson or Ms. Rising if you have questions or concerns.
Thanks,
Dr. H

Walkthrough Focus This Week
The rubric for this dimension reads: "The teacher clearly and accurately communicates to support persistence, deeper learning and effective effort."
We will be looking at classroom practices that provide opportunities for students to communicate with peers and their teacher, how you recognize common student misunderstandings and respond to them in a variety of ways, the explanations your provide, as well as levels of questioning. (All of this is from the T-TESS Rubic).
