The Buzz at Westbrook
January 24, 2020
From the Principal...
Dear Westbrook Families,
We love to see student work around the building! Pictured here are the fabulous self-portraits made by our first graders on a woven background. You may also find pictures of our students in action on Twitter and Instagram. We are so proud of our students for their hard work!
Behavior Expectations
At Westbrook, we have three school-wide behavior expectations: Be Safe, Be Ready, and Be Kind. Students can earn bee tickets when they are caught demonstrating one or more of these behaviors. On Fridays, one lucky student from each K-1 class who has demonstrated these behaviors during the week gets to wear a bee sash all day. Click here to view our behavior expectations in all locations throughout the building.
Safety at Arrival/Dismissal
In order to maintain the safety of our students and families, here are a few friendly reminders:
When walking in the parking lot, use the crosswalk.
While on the sidewalk, walk on the side of the yellow line that is closest to the school. This provides a safe distance away from the buses.
Please walk around lines of students who are walking to their buses or waiting to go up the stairs on the bus. This will help us to make sure that our bus riders are getting on the correct bus.
Benchmarking
Along with teacher observations, parent feedback, and students’ daily classroom work, benchmark assessments are used to inform teachers’ instruction to meet students’ individual learning needs. Our team is currently working on benchmarking all kindergarten and first grade early literacy and math skills.
STEAM Night
Mark your calendars! We are excited to offer a special STEAM Night for Westbrook Families on Thursday, March 12. (STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math.) Your entire family is welcome to attend! See the flyer below for more information. Please RSVP here by February 20!
Enrollment for Kindergarten and Circle of Friends
More information about the enrollment process for Kindergarten and Circle of Friends can be on our school website.
Volunteering
We are so fortunate to have a committed and active PTO! We can’t thank them enough for all that they do for our students and our school community. There are many different opportunities to volunteer at Westbrook School. We are looking for volunteers to help in our library! Volunteers read to classes, re-shelve books, and check out books to students. Click on this link if you would like to sign up to volunteer in the library!
If you are interested in other volunteering activities, such as helping with staff appreciation, special lunch, art appreciation, Leapin’ into Literature, and more, please click on this link.
