Crestview Weekly Update
September 9-September 13
The Crestview community facilitates a culture of learning by promoting respect, responsibility, safety and a sense of belonging, resulting in personal and academic success in a changing world.
Growth Mindset at Crestview
At Crestview, we work to help students develop a growth mindset. We believe that with practice, perseverance and effort people have LIMITLESS potential to learn and grow. We work to help students tackle challenges and focus on the POWER of growth!
Each month we will highlight a growth mindset "mantra". We will talk about and discuss this aspect of Growth Mindset in the classroom and as a school.
September Growth Mindset Mantra - Everyone Can Learn!
LABEL
Be sure to label ALL student gear. This includes sweatshirts, hats, gloves, boots and jackets, with your child's first initial and last name. If we find a lost item, we will always look for a label.
LAYER
The fall weather is moving in. We go to recess every day. Please plan for cooler mornings and layering clothing to help students feel comfortable at school.
LOOK
Check your child's backpack daily to be sure clothing from the day comes home. Check the lost and found for missing items as soon as you know they are missing.

A message from our School Social Worker, Mrs. Blankenship
Welcome back families! If you are in need of additional backpacks or clothing, please contact Mrs. Blankenship to arrange a time to access our free school-based clothing closet.
If families would like to receive FREE weekend food packs for their children, please contact Mrs. Blankenship.
In the next couple of weeks, I will be visiting each classroom to discuss how we share a space with others and what to do when someone is bothering us. We will be reviewing District 833’s anti-bullying policy so kids are aware of how to identify when someone is bullying others and how to report it.
Some classrooms will begin Moving Mindfully classes for 20-30 minutes per week. Classes are invited to utilize my office space where I will teach kids through a variety of themes that focus on self-regulation and physical and mental well-being. We will learn a physical poses, practice deep breathing strategies, play some social/emotional learning games and use partner poses to build connection to others. Students will also learn the power of visualization through guided relaxations. Research supports the use of these strategies to help kids learn, grow and connect. Please contact me if you have any questions or to opt out: dblanken@sowashco.org
If you have any questions or concerns about your child beyond their academic needs, please reach out and let me know. I offer small group and individual work throughout the school year on a variety of topics: Social Thinking, self-regulation, friendship groups, groups to understand a disability, family change and so on. Groups do not typically start until October.
We are excited for this school year and the opportunity to help each child develop a passion for learning!
First Lego League
Crestview was awarded a grant from 3M to continue offer FIRST LEGO LEAGUE teams. This year, we will have two teams for students in grades 3-5 and one team for grades K-2. New this year is that we will invite children interested in participating to apply. Each team will only accept 6 children, unlike last year.
Applications will be sent home on Monday, September 9, 2019 and are DUE BACK on SEPTEMBER 13, 2019. It’s a quick turnaround time but we are anxious to get started! Participation is FREE thanks to our generous sponsors.
Please contact Mrs. Blankenship with questions: dblanken@sowashco.org.
