The end of the quarter is Friday January 18, 2019. We have already begun our assessments in reading, math and writing. Please be sure to remind your child to eat a good breakfast, get good sleep, and do their best. Report cards will go home Monday February 4, 2019.
End of 2nd Quarter Behavior Reward Party!!!
Class Dojo has proven to be a valuable communication tool and behavior tracking app for the whole school to use. All teachers at South are able to reward and take away points as needed. Throughout the 2nd quarter we have been reviewing the school expectations to ensure that all students are aware of how they can earn Dojo points. The requirements for attending the Dance Party Friday February 8, 2019 are having 85% positive points and no office referrals.
What Will We Be Learning?
Literacy
This month we are focusing on comparing and contrasting texts on the same topic, especially a non-fiction vs. a fiction text. We will be diving more into non-fiction texts and discussing Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and animals.
Math
We are continuing to learn about place value (tens and ones) and how to compose and decompose those numbers. For example 26 can be decomposed into 20 and 6. We are also determining whether a number sentence is true or false. For example .is 5+1=6+2 (this would be false).
RAF
RAF visited classrooms as part of our Respectability lessons.
Dreidel Dreidel Dreidel
Students learned how to play the Dreidel game as part of Holidays Around the World rotations.

Here is an example of the many cards that we received from all over the country!
