2F Weekly News

Week of August 31st

A Note from Ms. Graves

Thank you so much to every parent for making me feel so welcomed in Doha and for being so prompt with morning arrival! This means every child is present at our morning meetings, a crucial piece in our community building. {Learn more about this at next week's back to school night.}

Please note homework for 2nd grade will begin next week. Every Sunday, homework will go home inside your child's clear envelope. It will need to be returned the following Sunday. The envelope will need to be sent back to school on Monday and any day there are papers to go home they will be placed in this bag. Be on the lookout for our current curriculum letters which were sent home this Thursday. We also have picture day scheduled for this coming Sunday, September 7th.

All of this information and more, including handouts will be shared at the Back to School Night next Wednesday. I hope to see you there.

Scroll down for reminders, events, and important information from specialists and about general school announcements. This week is full of announcements :)

FYI: We do NOT have any known food allergies in 2F this year.

Warm Regards,

Emily

Specialist and School Announcements

Grade Two – MAP Testing Parent Information Session

Grade two students will be taking the MAP – Measure of Academic Progress Standardized tests in Language Arts and Math during the week of September 21st – 25th. Last year we conducted MAP® testing as a pilot in two sections of grade two. This year all students in grade two will be tested. Data provided from MAP testing assists teachers to determine your child’s instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year (and from year to year) in the areas of Mathematics and Language Arts. Your child will take the tests on a computer. These tests are unique in that they adapt to be appropriate to your child’s level of learning. Grade 2 parents are invited to attend a presentation about MAP standardized testing on Thursday, September 11th at 8:05 am in the ES Cafeteria. This session aims to provide parents with information about the MAP testing and reposting format. We encourage all second grade parents to join us.

Student Wristbands and Parent ID Cards

Students will be issued individual wristbands (Dragon Bands) on Sunday, September 7th. These wristbands will be kept at school and they will be distributed to those students that wish to buy a school lunch and in turn collected and kept in the classroom after lunch. This will help us keep track of student wristbands and hopefully limit loss.
Students will use their wristbands to purchase lunch starting Sunday, September 7th as there will no longer be any cash accepted. We understand that parents may not have time to load money onto family accounts by Sunday and therefore students will be allowed to purchase food with their wristbands and run a deficit for the duration of the week of September 7th – 11th. Parents are able to visit the MS/HS dining hall between 12 – 4 pm on Saturday, September 6th to deposit money on their accounts. Parents are also now able to visit the main reception to obtain their ID card. Kiosks are available in the main reception and MS/HS cafeteria for you to deposit money for your children to use for purchasing food on campus. For your convenience an ID booth will also be available to parents during Back To School Night in the lower elementary building.
A more detailed explanation of the information provided here can also be found on the Sahifa.

A Note From IT

In IT over the next few weeks we will be reviewing our form, using computers safely in the classroom, starting to use the math website called IXL, and introducing the students to NESA Virtual School.

Best wishes,
Phil
