The Manning Weekly Update

December 3, 2021

Manning Community,

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving break! It was nice to get a little down time and even a few inches of snow! Hopefully we will get some more next week. As a reminder, please make sure your child/children are coming with warm weather gear next week as there is a cold front moving in on Sunday evening.

We have so much to look forward to with the holiday season upon us! We have our winter musical next Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and our holiday collage concert the following week. We have amazing things going on in every classroom over the next two weeks including semester ending culminating projects, finals, and other neat learning opportunities!

Also, I would like to alert all families that Tuesday, December 21st is a flex day. What does a flex day mean you might ask (this is especially for our 6th and 7th grade parents that have never experienced a flex day at the middle school level due to Covid)? A flex day is a day where all students are welcome to come to school, but not all students need to come to school; very much like the testing days that many of you experienced in elementary school. Students that should come to school on a middle school flex day are students that need to complete a course final, any missing assignments that are still being accepted, and any other reason that students might need additional support. If your student has their finals completed, and assignments turned in, then they do not need to come to school on Tuesday, 12/21.

Finally, we have one more prospective family tour coming up on January 6th due to popular demand! During our four dedicated tours in October/November, we had more than 220 families walk through our doors for the first time to check out what Manning is all about. If you know of anyone interested in attending Manning next year, please see below for more information about our final tour of this enrollment year.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Better Together,

Christian Ramaker

Way to go 6th grade ELA!!

Students in 6th grade ELA classes worked on creating windmills to learn the difficulties of problem solving and working together after reading The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind. They then tested their windmills to determine the amount of electricity they could generate based on the efficiency of the spinning blades. Here are the top teams!

APPLEWOOD HOLIDAY LIGHTS

Grab a hot cocoa and meet up with friends in the Applewood Knolls neighborhood, beginning at 5:00 p.m. on the next three Fridays in December (12/3, 12/10 & 12/17). Neighbors and Manning classmates will be walking the neighborhood, taking in the holiday lights, and helping to decorate the neighborhood holiday tree on the corner of 30th Ave and Parfet. Hang an ornament as you walk past the tree and join in the outdoor holiday fellowship. Applewood Knolls sits between 32nd Ave and 26th Ave, just East of Quail St. Neighbors have gone all in on the lights and some will have festive music playing to get you in the holiday spirit. Parents are welcome to walk with the kids or have a meet-up point after the stroll.
