Sotonye Wokoma Scholar of the Day
An Artist, Poet, and the Mind
A Neuroscientist That Makes The Connection
Art and Science Go Together?
Langston Hughes quotes: "Perhaps the mission of an artist is to interpret the beauty to people---the beauty within themselves."
Talking to Sotonye, an award winning poet, can quickly put you into the words that become a story well-told. At an early age, she began to play around with words and then connect words to visual arts. Sotonye's works of art are beautiful pallets and selected subjects are inspiring. Only a true artist can bring together thoughts and imagery to tell a story; but only a true scientist can take imagery to better understand the connection between experiences to the brain, and the impact on behavior. What an amazing way to connect the love for the arts to science.
Sotonye will soon look beyond her senior year of high school! In the fall, she will attend the University of Maryland in College Park, majoring in Neuroscience and Psychology. Learning more about how the brain works, cognitive function and its structure to gain a better understanding of the sources of creativity and innovation.
Dedicated to serving at Ronald McDonald house and bringing a team of Scholars together to serve with excellence was part of her role as a L.E.E.P To College Foundation Scholar. Her leadership and dedication to learning, as a Scholar, will serve her well in years ahead! We celebrate you Sotonye as our right now leader!
