DES Principal's Eagle News!
Soaring into Success! February 9, 2024
"A Weekly Roundup of Learning and Fun!"
Dear Dighton Elementary School Families,
I hope this message finds you well as we enter the month of February. It brings me great pleasure to share some wonderful news with you all: Casey Giles has been named our fortunate Feinstein Winner this week! Please join me in extending our heartfelt congratulations to Casey for this remarkable achievement.
Casey's success as a Feinstein Winner not only brings pride to our school but also presents fantastic opportunities for our students and staff. With this honor, our school will receive a $5,000 grant, contributing to enriching experiences for everyone. Additionally, Casey has the privilege to allocate a $500 grant to a non-profit of their choice or to our school, showcasing their generosity and community spirit. Furthermore, Casey will receive a delightful surprise set of gifts from The Feinstein Foundation, adding even more excitement to this well-deserved recognition.
In addition to celebrating Casey's success, I'm thrilled to share another heartwarming achievement within our school community. Our kindergarten students recently received a special visit from Superintendent Runey to honor their outstanding compassion and service to our community.
Superintendent Runey presented our kindergarteners with District Community Service Belt in recognition of their generosity and selflessness during the December kindergarten toy drive. The belt symbolizes their dedication to helping others and making a positive impact on our community. It's truly inspiring to see our young learners embodying the spirit of giving and compassion at such a young age.
We want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all the families who generously donated toys and supported this initiative. Your contributions played a crucial role in bringing our district's "Portrait of a Graduate" to life, nurturing empathy, kindness, and a sense of community among our students.
Lastly, I want to express my sincere appreciation to all of our families for your ongoing support. Your involvement and dedication to your child's education are invaluable to our school community. #WeAreDR!
If you have any questions or require further information about upcoming events, please don't hesitate to contact the school office. We're here to support you in any way we can.
Warm regards,
Mrs. Dessert, Mrs. Lima, and the entire School Staff 🌟
This Week's Golden Ticket
Dighton Rehoboth "Portrait of Graduate"
Last month, the students in my class read a few stories in our Wonders reading program that were centered around making a difference in their community. One of the activities asked the kiddos to brainstorm a community service project they could carry out in their community if given the opportunity. The students took a real interest in this assignment, so much so that we are going to put some of them into action!
Items will be collected each morning in the foyer between 9:00-9:30 am. My students will be manning the table, taking inventory and offering gratitude as donations are dropped off. I thank you in advance for supporting the Dighton Food Pantry, the Dighton community and more importantly, for helping my students see that one person can make a difference. Kindness and compassion can change the world.
Message from Mrs. Grillo's Grade 4 Students
Dear Dighton Families,
We are the F.F.F.D, also known as the Fun Fantastic Food Drive. We are fourth graders in Mrs. Grillo's class who are collecting food and personal care items for the Dighton Food pantry as part of a community service project. We will be collecting items from February 26-March 8th. Would you be willing to donate items? Please send the items to school with your child if so.
Thank you,
Students in M3
Photos of the Week!
Mrs. Grillo's Class
Mrs. Grillo’s class enjoyed the EarthView presentation by Bridgewater State University. The kiddos were AMAZED and ENGAGED as they got to take a look at the whole world at one time. M3 may have a few future geographers in the making!
After the viewing, students in M3 celebrated their awesomeness with a “bird buck cash in”. The kids played board games, had snacks and sang and danced to music. What a great way to end the week! #funinfourth
Mrs. Perry's Class
First graders decided that Mother Nature would not win last week. So, we brought in our rain gear and went for a walk in the rain and through puddles!
Mr. Trocchio's Class
Math was full of visitors and math experts.
Oakie loves to join us on the rug for our math video.
Mrs. Lima joined our math review with Mr. Badger on Geometry’s. I wonder how she scored on her test.

From Mrs. Racine
A heartfelt "thank you" to our incredible PTO!
What an amazing group of dedicated, devoted, and generous parents! Recently, the PTO hosted the Scholastic Book Fair, making sure that every student at DES went home with a book! Parents staffed the fair each day, helped the students with selections, and ensured that all the children had a very good time.
We are so lucky to have such an active and committed organization; they provide both the students and teachers with multiple opportunities for enrichment all year long, from staff lunches and building improvements, to bringing the Bird Buck Store to the kids each Friday.
I am so grateful to the PTO for all they have done for me, for our school, and for our students. Our community is genuinely blessed by their constant support and hard work.
My gratitude, Mrs. Racine
PTO Updates and Events
Hello DES families,
Attached, please find your important PTO information for February. Please note that though our Stuffie event does not take place until March, all items have to be preordered. Our order deadline is February 16th. Orders can be placed online at Pay4SchoolStuff.com, or by sending in cash/check with the slip from the flyer, to school with your student. Please note that any lost or forgotten slips can not be added late, due to the ordering process, so we do prefer online ordering for this event, if possible. And though flower sales for the Sweetheart Dance have closed, we do ask that you still send in your slips with the number of guests that will be attending the dance. This is a free event, but we do need a count of attendees. Don't forget, our next general body meeting will be held this Wednesday, February 7th, at 6pm in the DES library. All are welcome! As always, if you have any questions you can contact us at PTODighton@gmail.com.
Thank you,
Dighton PTO
