CCC Library Newsletter
Mrs. Williams - February, 2020 - part 2
CCC Library circulation policy and overdue email notices
- Students in grades K-1st can check out one (1) book and the book stays in the classroom
- Students in grades 2nd-5th can check out two (2) books (sometimes I allow more) and the books can be taken home.
Books are checked out for one (1) week and can be renewed if the student is actively reading.
- If you got a note and your student is in grades K - 1st, the book is in the classroom.
- If you got a note and your student is in grades 2nd-5th, help your student find the book and return to the library so he/she can check out and enjoy a different book :)
- I'll be sending the overdue notices to parents of students in grades 2nd - 5th on a regular basis. I believe this new feature will help our students.
Thank you!
When can students visit the library?
Additionally, I open my library for students to return and check out books, take AR quizzes, do schoolwork, play board games during the following times:
Every day

10:30 - 10:45
only on Mondays and Tuesdays
12:30 - 12:55
after school per parent/teacher permission (only to return and check out books)
Six Flags Read to Succeed 2020
This year lots of changes in Read to Succeed Program! Parents now create an account for their child and log his/her reading hours online at home. Each class receives a unique code to be used for the registration purpose.
Back in November 2019 I distributed reading logs to each teacher in our school so they can pass on the reading logs with instructions to students to take home. If anyone lost the paper, you can contact your teacher or me - kwilliams@wpusd.org -for your child's class unique code.
There's also another way you can still register your child by using a general code for our school and then choosing from the drop down menu the name of your child's teacher. Here's step by step instructions:
1) Register using this link: Visit: sixflags.com/books
2) Use CCC school's general code: : RSEWN
3) choose your child's teacher name from the drop down menu
4) record your child's reading on the website
5) receive a ticket to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom from our school/your child's teacher in May
You can register on your computer or smartphone. I registered my son and I'm tracking his reading hours on my phone. You can record the reading hours daily, weekly or whenever it's convenient for you. Your child can use the reading log or just plain piece of paper to track how much he/she reads and then give it to you so you can record hours online.
This year the deadline for submitting the reading logs has been extended to April 17, 2020! So there's still plenty of time if you and your child would like to participate!
Here's a link to a Reading Log with our school's general code RSEWN
Book donations welcome in our library
Rewards for Library Volunteers and Students with exceptional library manners
What if you were an author and our school library purchased your book... 4th and 5th grade project
Our 4th and 5th grade students have been learning more about fiction and non-fiction and how to locate books in any library. They've been practicing shelving and learning more about call numbers - location of a book in the library.
4th and 5th grade students got a chance to design a cover of their own book. They had to figure out what call number their book would have in our library. They became very creative! Most of them "wrote" Fiction books but there were some that "wrote" Non-Fiction".
Examples of call numbers:
FIC KIN chapter book
E WIL picture book
552 PET non-fiction book

Lots of New Books
November 2019 Book Fair was a great success!
Thank you to all the families that visited the library during the Book Fair and made purchases! Not only you're providing new books to your children but you're also supporting the school library!
A big thank you to all the wonderful Book Fair Volunteers! I wouldn't be able to do it all without your help!
Enjoy some of the pictures below from the Book Fair.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Williams
Snow Much to Read Book Fair
Books purchased directly from the Book Fair for our Library
Bookplates
You might have noticed a special donation box called "All for Books" during the book fair. The spare change was used to buy books for the library and to help some students complete their purchases if they were a bit short on change. The goal was to have each child leave the book fair with a book. ("All for books" donations were not used for non-book items)

I couldn't have done it all without your help!
We will have one more Book Fair in May 2020. If we're successful and we reach our goal (1500 in sales) Scholastic will give 75% of total profit back to our library in Scholastic dollars. Couldn't pass on that offer!
Next year 2020/2021 we will only have one book fair during Parent Teacher Conference week in November 2020.
If you would like to help out, stay tuned for more information coming out this spring. I will appreciate any help.
