March 1, 2023 - NEWSLETTER
Hello Northpoint Community!
I am so excited that March is here. It’s been a long winter. I am all for “in like a lion and out like a lamb” if that’s what it takes to get spring to arrive as soon as possible. I’m looking forward to warmer weather and longer days.
We are concluding Round Two of Power Hour. As usual, the children are loving learning more about one of their personal interests in a hands-on way. We will have one more session of Power Hour this spring. We are also looking forward to an all-school field trip to the Science Museum. Please be looking for information and a permission slip that is coming home today. A sincere thank you to the Northpoint PTO for helping fund both of these experiences.
The final days of the second trimester are upon us. Please do all you can to be sure your child is able to attend school these upcoming days as we conclude our learning for this grading period. Thank you in advance for this partnership. Spring break is March 10-20, with school resuming March 21.
Thanks to all who supported the Panther Foundation’s Week of Giving last week. It was a very successful effort that will benefit all of our students and schools.
Have a wonderful week,
Judi Kahoun
Principal

Construction trades course receives $50k grant
The Panther Foundation has been awarded a $50,000 grant from the Installed Building Products Foundation to support the Construction Trades course at Spring Lake Park High School. Students in the course are building a house that will move into the community later this spring.
“This grant supports students in gaining real-world skills and experience building a home and exploring career paths in the trades,” says Eric Van Brocklin, pathways program lead. “The resulting product will provide quality, affordable shelter for a family in our community.”
The construction trades course is part of the high school’s Career and College Pathways programming in which students explore potential career paths as they gain real skills and experience. There are three pathways that each represent a need for future jobs and community impact — Technology, Engineering and Design; Health and Human Services; and, Business and Entrepreneurship.

Panthers for a Purpose raises $120k
The Panther Foundation’s annual Week of Giving and Panther Party raised $120,000 to support activities and programs benefiting the students of Spring Lake Park Schools.
The Week of Giving, February 18-25, was full of panther pride. There were themed spirit wear days, dine to donate opportunities in partnership with local restaurants, and a silent auction with more than 300 packages open for bidding and a Panther Party on Saturday night.
While the party may be over, the giving isn’t. Each year, the Foundation identifies a Fund-A-Dream project. This year, the focus is support for career and college readiness programming and you can still donate donating online.
