School Update

Dear Families,

We enjoyed shared school activities and learning around mental health and the joys of reading with Bell Let's Talk Day and Family Literacy Day. Students continue to explore learning in ways that tap into their creativity, natural curiosity and collaborative spirit. We are fortunate to have incredible educators who invest so much into building students' individual strengths -helping them see themselves, see others, and see the world around them.

Tuesday, February 1st is Chinese/Lunar New Year. 2022 brings the Year of the Tiger, third in the 12-animal Chinese zodiac cycle. Tigers were born in 2010, 1998, 1986, 1974, 1962, 1950 and so on. According to superstition, a person born in a particular year takes on the traits of that year's animal. Here is a link for a wonderful video about some of the traditions of Chinese new year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mm9LJC_5g2o We wish all of our families who celebrate a joyful New Year!

While there has been a bit of a nip in the air, the sun has been kind to join us outside on the yards on many of our school days outside at recess. Here are some local activities for families to explore over the weekend and as the days get longer:

Tutoring Available through LDAK

The Learning Disabilities Association of Kingston is proud to announce the launch of our LDAK Literacy Tutoring Program this Spring! The program will be piloted in selected school communities in Kingston, ON from April - June 2022 with students in Grades 1-3. We hope to be able to expand our tutoring program based on the Science of Reading in the future. In the meantime, LDAK is happy to share contact information for some of our trained tutors, who are available independently for online tutoring.

Short-Term Virtual Learning Options

We are aware that there are some families who would like to continue learning virtually for the time being. If this is the case for your child, please let the teachers know, and use the "Short-term Virtual" option when completing the advance absence notification. Teachers will be providing students with short-term asynchronous learning, and there will be a survey sent out by the board next week for families who would like to continue remote learning for a longer period of time. If you plan to send your children back to school, you do not need to complete this survey.
