Fracking Around The World
See how fracking is helping are lives!
What is Fracking?
Fracking or hydronic frackuring is the extracting of natural gas from the shale under the ground. The well curves about 90 degrees and begins drilling horizontally. After they drill into the ground they pump fluid into the well which is usually water. When underground rock is broken and proppants are pumped into place, trapped reservoirs of gas and oil are released and pumped back to the top. Horizontal drilling can extend more than 1 mile. The shale that we drill into is called Marcellus Shale. The Marcellus Shale has the chance for a hug impact from an economic standpoint.
What is the point of fracking?
The whole point of fracking is to get natural gas and oil for the shale for life on earth. We use so much oil in our daily lives that this is one way that we can get it. Drilling companies go out and get the natural gas and oil so we can still heat are homes, air conditioning, refrigeration, lighting and water supply.
Oklahoma
Oklahoma has been having the biggest earthquakes lately. People in Oklahoma have been blaming it on fracking. Oklahoma is the big oil state. They have been fracking for a while now but as the years go on the ground is starting to shift. As the ground shifts it causes earthquakes. They say that small ones has been going on for year but they haven't been as bad as their getting.
Ohio
In Ohio they are making a new issue new permit conditions. Ohio has have reports of earthquakes. Ohio findings may not have much relevance. They are infulenting people who live on of near fracking sites that fracking is safe. (We empowers citizens to protect their communities locally while supporting a statewide moratorium until fracking’s impacts are studied and until we believe that safe and effective regulation will prevent unacceptable harm to wildlife, human health, water, air, and property values.) -Sierra Club
Pennsylvania
Fracking have been in high demand. Along with the gas rush have come disastrous industrial accidents and poisoned drinking water. Communities fighting to keep their water and air clean and state forests. (These wells are drilled near our homes, schools, and offices—but information about them is not always readily accessible or publicly available.) - NRDC
Look what I think of fracking!
My personal opinion of fracking is that it is unsafe for our economy and human life. "NRDC opposes expanded fracking until effective safeguards are in place." They should not frack near homes and building because our water can become polluted. Methane has been found in water near Fracking sites."(Natural Resources Defense Council stands for NRDC) Nearly all natural gas extraction today involves a technique called hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, in which dangerous chemicals are mixed with large quantities of water and sand and injected into wells at extremely high pressure." "Fracking is a suspect in polluted drinking water in Arkansas, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia and Wyoming, where residents have reported changes in water quality or quantity following fracturing operations." Health problems are also a big thing. With all the gases that are coming up from the ground fracking could harm us in many ways."We also support strong safeguards for production of all energy sources to minimize risks to our health. Since natural gas burns more cleanly than other fossil fuels, it can contribute to protecting public health when it is used to displace dirtier fuels like coal." People who live near or around Fracking sites say that they have notice that they were getting sick more often."We also calculated higher cancer risks for residents living nearer to the wells as compared to those residing further." Studies show the you could get liver disease, seizure disorders, and rare cancer. "In a new study, researchers from the Colorado School of Public Health have shown that air pollution caused by hydraulic fracturing or fracking may contribute to acute and chronic health problems for those living near natural gas drilling sites." Toxic chemicals are used while fracking and even though it helps in some way it is also hurting our wildlife and the environment. Many of the chemical they use to frack stay in the rock pores and over time they come up to the surface and can mix in with the water ways that wildlife depends on.
