My Social Media Use
Social media is a huge part in most people’s life today. It’s almost like this generation is obsessed and can’t get enough of it all. I use some sort of social media at least once a day if not more. The two main sites I get on are Twitter to tweet all throughout the day and Instagram to post pictures. If I decided to abandon my Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram account I don’t know what I would do. It’s sad to say, but being on these websites takes up a lot of my time so if I’m not on them then I don’t know what I would be doing. Whenever I get free time I’m always checking these sites, if I don’t I will feel like I’m missing out on something. These websites have good and bad qualities about them, such as it’s an easy way to meet people but it can also be dangerous and divert. By not using social media I would not be in contact with most of the people I am today and I would have no clue what they were up to. I use Facebook to see and talk to my friends and family in other states that I don’t get to see often, without it I’m not sure how much or if I would even talk to them. I almost wish smart phones and all of these addicting social media sites never came out, there all distractions and it’s very rare that it benefits our lives in a good way.

ATLANTA - A first year student at a local Atlanta college is arrested after allegedly living in a home’s crawlspace for almost 11 months without the permission or even knowledge of the homeowners.
Atlanta police were called to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fredrickson late Sunday afternoon. The couple was in a panic, claiming a young female was residing in their crawlspace without their consent. Upon arrival, Atlanta police were taken-a-back to find a nineteen year old freshman at the local college, living full time below the Fredrickson’s home.
The couple became suspicious after they noticed certain food missing in their kitchen and dishes being washed mysteriously. They decided to set up cameras to try and capture what was going on in their absence. The camera plainly showed a young woman coming from their basement, making a sandwich, cleaning her mess, doing all of the dishes that the couple had left behind, and going back downstairs; leaving everything else untouched.
Atlanta Police weren’t sure how to approach the situation. The girl didn’t appear to be violent or under the influence. She was overly apologetic to Mr. and Mrs. Fredrickson about the entire situation.
“The young girl’s reasoning for her mind boggling actions was that she needed to save money in order to stay in college,” reported Atlanta Police Chief Rick Newman, who was later called on scene for back-up.
After confronting the teen and listening to her reasoning, Mr. and Mrs. Fredrickson not only decided to not press charges against the young lady, they also proposed a deal to help her.
“We don’t want to punish the poor girl for attempting to get her education. Hopefully, after we take care of her trespassing charges, we can work something out to help put her through the rest of college. If her own family nor the state can help her, we will,” Mr. Fredrickson exclaimed.
How Song Relates to 1984
The song, Story of my Life by One Direction relates to George Orwells book, "1984" because its talking about how things aren't changing even though he's trying it’s literally the story of his life. He's so empty and wants to tell his story. Even though the guy is broken he is not giving up just like Winston, he had nothing to really look forward to until he met this girl. In the song it talks about making this girl happy and he wants to freeze time, everytime Winston is with Julia there is a strong connection and im sure Winston wishes he could always be with her and freeze time to make that happen. The lyric " baby running after you is like chasing a cloud" this refers to Winston wanting Julia, they knew it was against the rules and almost impossible to get away with and if anyone found out it would be bad but he tried to chase after her anyways. All Winston wants it to be happy with Julia and know the truth.
Lyrics-
Written in these walls are the stories that I cant explain,
I leave my heart open but it stays right here empty for days,
She told me in the morning she don’t feel the same about us in her bones,
It seems to me that when I die these words will be written on my stone,
And I'll be gone, gone tonight
The ground beneath my feet is open wide
The way that I've been holding on too tight with nothing in between
The story of my life I take her home
I drive all night
To keep her warm and time-
Is frozen
The story of my life I give her hope
I spend her love until she’s broke inside
The story of my life
Written on these walls are the colours that I can't change
Leave my heart open but it stays right here in its cage
I know that in the morning I'll see us in the light upon the pier
Although I'm broken my heart is untamed still
And I'll be gone, gone tonight
The fire beneath my feet is burning bright
The way that I've been holding on so tight
With nothing in between
The story of my life I take her home
I drive all night
To keep her warm and time-
Is frozen
The Story of my life I give her hope
I spend her love until she’s broke inside
The story of my life
And I've been waiting for this time to come around
But baby running after you is like chasing the clouds
The story of my life I take her home
I drive all night
To keep her warm and time
Is frozen
The Story of my life I give her hope
I spend her love until she’s broke inside
The story of my life
The story of my life
The story of my life
The story of my life

Looking Back
To be media literate is to have the ability to access, analyze, evaluate and create media in a variety of different ways. My thoughts on Media Literacy have defiantly deepened, I have realized how so dependent we are on technology and all the social media websites we use. It’s almost scary how much of our time is wasted with social media. I have also learned to write better and write in different ways. We worked on précis’s, how to use smore, wordle, etc. This class was different than other classes because it was hands on, we talked about present events so we could relate, and social media which everyone uses so everyone knew what was going on. Even though we did read a few books this class was mostly an online class which made things a lot easier than keeping up with a bunch of papers. I would much rather be on a computer then be in a classroom writing with pens and paper, it’s easier and faster. In this class we weren’t just doing book work either, which is so boring we were actually involved and learning. A few of my favorite assignments done in this class were picking our favorite super bowl commercial and writing a précis on it and picking a theme song for the book “1984.” I don’t think anything needs to change with the way the class is, I think by this class being mostly online is already a huge change but it’s a good one. I have enjoyed this class and everything we have learned because we spent so much time on things and practiced, we weren’t just thrown into a new class with no help. There were videos to explain things and we always had thorough instructions and a teacher to always ask for help.
