NDE SEEKING PUBLIC INPUT ON NEBRASKA ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS STANDARDS

The Nebraska Department of Education is seeking input from the public on the 2014 NebraskaEnglish Language Arts Standards. The information collected will be used as part of the standards review and revision process. The revision process is expected to be completed by Fall 2021.

State law requires updates to the English Language Arts standards every seven years. Once approved by the State Board of Education, the standards create the framework for English Language Arts education in Nebraska.

Nebraska content area standards reflect the knowledge and skills students are expected to learn in a given content area. By setting clear benchmarks for learning, content area standards provide guidance to teachers as they develop learning experiences. Standards do not prescribe particular curriculum, lessons, teaching techniques, or activities.

Decisions about curriculum and instruction are made locally by individual school districts and classroom teachers.

Free Lunch and Breakfast at LPS

Just a reminder, that beginning on Thursday, October 1, 2020, Louisville Public Schools began providing free breakfast and lunch to all Kindergarten through 12th grade students who are actively attending school.

The change was a result of a COVID-19 waiver extension from the United States Department of Agriculture that allowed schools to serve meals to all students at no cost, under the Summer Food Service Program Guidelines.

The service provided by the federal government will continue through December 31, 2020, OR until the USDA funding stops.

If funding runs out before December 31, 2020, LPS will be notified by the Nebraska Department of Education, in return, we will notify our families as to the end date of the program.

When this waiver expires, we will transition back to our current meal service practice, in accordance with the NDE and USDA guidelines. At that time, students will resume their current regular, reduced, or free meal rate status.

*Please keep in mind only the 1st meal is free, students will still be charged for all extra meals, extra, or single milk purchases, and a la carte items at normal prices.

Reminder – This is for FULL breakfast and lunch meal trays, not for individual a la carte items, second meals, or milk. In order for your child to receive a free breakfast or lunch, they must take all the required meal components that make up a full tray.

If your student is interested in the free meal program and is unsure of how to access either breakfast, or lunch, please let your building principal know and they will be happy to assist.

If in question, Louisville families should contact their respective school offices and make certain that all contact numbers and family information is updated for the 2020-2021 school year.
