Principal's Message
Perseverance and Grit Can Be Taught - Perseverance is the quality that allows someone to continue trying even in the face of difficulty, adversity, or impossibility. Grit is another important skill aligned with perseverance. We need to be sure students learn to respond to adversity,” he adds. “The first step is being transparent about the need for grit. It should be part of the common vocabulary and readily discussed by teachers, students, and parents.”As caregivers, we should have frequent discussions with our children about the importance of these skills, and teach them to react constructively to a setback and then evaluate and re-plan if necessary. Here are some tips for fostering perseverance and grit in children, whether in the classroom, at home, or elsewhere:
Regularly encourage children to try new things.
Adjust the degree of perseverance needed.
Share some instances when you’ve needed perseverance and grit to accomplish a difficult task.
Be creative when teaching the skills.
Be there for them when they do struggle or fail.
Encourage them. Have a wonderful and safe weekend. Mr. Butler
Information from the IDOE (Indiana Dept. of Education)
The Indiana Department of Education (Department) received information recently regarding a scoring issue from ISTEP+ Spring 2018 items in English/Language Arts in Grades 4, 5, and 10. Resolution will include a thorough data validation of all grades and content areas by an external and independent research organization for the Spring 2018 assessment as a quality control step undertaken by the Department.
At 12:01 a.m. ET (midnight) Monday, January 14, Pearson will disable access to ISTEP+ Spring 2018 results in Parent Portal, as well as On-Demand Reports (Student Details and Student List Report), Academic Standards Frequency, Academic Standards Summary, Proficiency Grouping Report, and Proficiency Summary Report in PearsonAccessNext. All static reports in PearsonAccessNext Published Reports will remain available.
The Department intends to retain the higher scale score for any impacted students to hold the individual students harmless for this data issue. Additionally, the Department will reload updated data files and revisit implications for accountability determinations which may benefit schools or corporations. The independent validation may take several weeks to complete, and the Department will provide timely updates on next steps when available.
