MYSTERY HANGOUTS
Mystery Hangout is a social game played with two groups of students. It's a mix of Battleships and 20 questions.
1. Two classes prepare by writing clues or questions about their geographical location for the other class.
2. Classes take turns giving clues about where they are or asking questions about the location of the other class.
3. The first class to guess the other's location wins.
PADLET-collaborative brainstorming!
The process of the election from the beginning to its results brought up many strong emotions. As a school community, we want to remind our students that we are accepting of all people and opinions. It is our goal to continue to strengthen our multicultural awareness and promote a positive school culture. The students will be able to access a PADLET WALL to collaborate and brainstorm!

Project-based learning via Discovery Education SOS Strategies
Project-based learning is a teaching method in which students gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to an engaging and complex question, problem, or challenge. Discovery Education’s Spotlight on Strategies are a bank of different ideas for using videos and other digital media in the classroom. They provide ideas to focus the children on important information while playing a video as part of a lesson. According to Discovery, they “are creative, research-based instructional strategies, created by teachers for teachers. These simple instructional strategies incorporate digital media in meaningful, effective, and practical ways.” There are currently over 60 different strategy ideas available. You may also use strategies lesson/Science TechBook Lesson/Discovery Ed Live Stream and Webinar lessons, etc.
Every week or so the SOS Blog is updated with new strategies for learning.

September News!
G-A-F-E stands for GOOGLE APPS FOR EDUCATION
Give us "SMORE" Technology!!!
Students have been taking online assessments in (Linkit) that incorporate PARCC-like skills. Some of the skills included: following a GOOGLE-FORM like format where students needed to click circles, check boxes, expand windows, navigate tabs, type in a text box, highlight text, choose from a drop-down menu, drag and drop, and more.
All grades have been familiarizing themselves with the "STUDENT TECHNOLOGY PLAYBOOK" and websites linked within. They will access educational & computer literacy programs in what is called a Symbaloo Webmix. The #Student Playbook is located under Quick links on our district website.
All teachers are familiarizing themselves with their Interactive Smartboards again! Grades 4-5-6 have their Google Chrome books inside classrooms, working hard in the "drives" creating documents that are shared with their teacher and classmates for reflections and collaboration. We have laptop carts, iPad carts, and extra Chromebooks carts to assist our younger grade levels.
