Monday's Thoughts
April 17, 2016
Testing is here!
Happy Monday! This week begins online testing for our fifth grade students. Students will be testing in both computer labs and in the room beside Mrs. Greer's LAUNCH room. Please remind students to walk quietly in the hallways. As is common this time of the year, it seems that some students are louder in the hallways and are not walking. This mostly happens when they are separated from you if they are washing tables, walking to the office, or just running errands. Please be sure to speak with your students again about being quiet and walking at all times in the hallways. This is a rule I know you work on regularly. :-)
We will also have visitors in our building this week. All of the district's reading coaches and Jennifer Smith from the State Department will be here Wednesday visiting K4 and Abbie Parks' classes. This will be a good time for our students to use our Colt Customs by shaking hands, looking others in the eye, and saying yes ma'am and no ma'am.
I hope you have a great week this week! The days are flying by.

Mrs. Laney Keys
Let me brag on Laney Keys! Matt and I have been playing kick ball with fifth grade for the past month. During the games, Laney was not playing but was sitting on the sidelines watching and drawing. Last week, she came up to me and showed me her drawings and told me that she and her dad were going to build a scoreboard for us to use during the kick ball games. (I can never keep up with the score and am always asking Shaila Billingsley the score!) Today, Laney's dad brought in this beautiful scoreboard. I am amazed by Laney's creation from her drawings to her finished product. She saw a problem and came up with a solution! Please speak to her when you see her about her creation. :-)
Cheering Others On!
I am so proud of the way our students cheered the Jet Toy Team on as they left for Detroit. I really think our Colt's Customs are working. Our 3rd-5th grade teachers have been working hard to prepare their students for testing in the coming days. It would be so amazing if teachers in K4-2nd grades could speak to our 3rd-5th graders encouraging them to do their best. You could send an email to their teachers to be read to the class, stop by and give them an encouraging word, have your students create a poster cheering them on, etc. Be creative! Let's use Colt's Custom #9: Cheer for others and celebrate their successes.
Earth Day
I cannot wait for Friday! The garden looks absolutely beautiful and the entire day is going to be a memorable event. Keep Anna Reedy in your thoughts as she travels to Columbia tomorrow to be presented with an award from Governor Haley. They are also supposed to send a representative to our event Friday to present her with a check and the school with a check as well. Our t-shirts should be here soon. I am so proud of her!
Lunch Friday
Due to our event, Friday will not be a duty free lunch day. Please take your classes through the line and then take them outside to eat. We are in the process of purchasing picnic tables so that you can take your class outside to eat. Kindergarten should also plan to eat breakfast in rooms Friday due to set-up in the cafeteria. Thanks!
Walking Before Testing
Fifth grade students will walk before testing this week. I will send them in at 7:45. If any adults would like to join us, please do so. We will be on the track. We will continue to walk each morning before testing for all grades.
