Deputy Learning Commons
Creativity, Curiosity, Innovation
February/March 2018
It feels like February disappeared right before our eyes!
We've been having so much fun with science, tech, engineering, art, and math in the Learning Commons, so read on to see what awesome learning is happening!
Thank you,
Mrs. Stevenson and Mrs. Clerkin
World Read Aloud Day 2018
We had an amazing time celebrating the power of reading at Deputy! We've celebrated World Read Aloud Day for the past few years. World Read Aloud Day was created by an organization called LitWorld for a very important reason.
We think everyone in the world should get to read and write. Every year, on World Read Aloud Day, people all around the globe read aloud together and share stories to advocate for literacy as a human right that belongs to all people. ~Litworld
This year students in 3rd and 4th grade celebrated World Read Aloud Day with a literacy-focused and tech-infused project. Students used Flipgrid to record videos of themselves reading. Once the Flipgrid is finished, QR Codes will be created and shared with our kindergarten and first-grade teachers to use in their classrooms.
Global School Play Day 2018
In February, all of Deputy participated in Global School Play Day!
This is one day set aside to bring awareness to the importance of play in a child's healthy, well-rounded development.
The underlying premise and concern around the decline of play is that children actually learn a number of valuable skills and lessons through play. Watch the short TEDx video below with Peter Gray talking about the decline and importance of play.
2018 Winter Olympic Fever
Lots of Olympic fun was had. The only regret is that there is not enough time to take in all of the memorable Olympic moments.

Oobleck
Making Oobleck was a hit in the Learning Commons!
Silly Shamrocks Digital Breakout EDU
Those Silly Leprechauns have made a mess. They left Shamrocks all over the place, but the Shamrocks may also be clues to where the Leprechaun hid his treasure! Figure out the puzzles to find the pot of gold!
As they were trying to solve the clues, they were also learning life skills such as collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
We're on Social Media!
