Thank you for attending Fall Conferences!
We want to thank you for attending your child’s Fall Parent/Teacher Conference. Teacher’s report a 98% attendance rate, which is GREAT!! Remember that you do not need to wait until conference time to share concerns about your child. We welcome that dialogue throughout the year.
Hour of Code
Dec. 7-12 is Computer Science Education Week and our Kennedy students are celebrating by participating in the nationwide Hour of Code event. Using the free website www.code.org/learn we are introducing all K-5 Kennedy students to this fabulous learning tool that teaches them in a very child-friendly way how to begin to learn computer programming or coding. Using an online, self-guided format allows each student to learn as they go as their own pace and with great success. Using popular themes like Star Wars, Minecraft, Disney's Frozen and Angry Bird as the backdrop for the learning certainly helps motivates our Comets to learn and have a great deal of fun along the way.
After a short introduction, we can quickly see students at their computers working on their 21st Century Skills of Collaboration and Critical Thinking as they work together to solve the next "coding learning puzzle." By the end of next week, all Kennedy Comets will have completed their first Hour of Code course and be on their way! It is a website that even adults can enjoy so feel free to check it out...and when you get stuck, remember to use your collaboration skills (that means ask your kids for help!).
