FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK
Because we have so much active learning taking place and our commitment to student achievement, we are concerned when a student misses part of the school day for any reason. The process of education requires instruction that is based on skill building, class participation, learning experiences, and study. Frequent tardies and/or absences affect your student's learning opportunities.
With that being said, we understand there are instances when a student is ill or has to be gone. Please make sure to report them absent to the office by calling 524-1953 and also contacting your child's teacher to make arrangements to get any work that your child may miss that day. If your child is late to school, we ask that you come into the office and be sure to get him/her signed in. If you will be picking your child up early from school, please come to the office and sign them out.

**News From The Classrooms**
Mr. Sprague, Physical Education Teacher
We are off to a great start in PE with fitness activities, skill development, and learning to work together. We have used kickball to not only practice throwing and catching skills, but to learn the rules and strategy associated with softball and baseball. We also take the time to talk about each student’s role as a teammate. This includes making sure everyone gets a chance to kick, pitch, and play different positions. Learning to appreciate not only our teammates, but our opponents has been a focus.
Please remind your student to bring tennis shoes on PE days. It is important for students to have tennis shoes so that they can have a safe, enjoyable experience.
Mrs. Grisham, 4th Grade
Wow! What a busy September in Mrs. Grisham’s classroom. In science, our student teacher, Mr. Lindner has been leading us in our quest as Geotechnical Engineers to build a Tarpul on the best building site. We have been learning about the Earth’s layers, erosion, core samples, and testing our building sites.
We celebrated John Chapman’s (Johnny Appleseed) birthday with a wide range of activities involving apples that touched on a number of our fourth grade standards. We made apple sauce, wrote a how-to report, compared and contrasted a tall tale and a biography on his life, and tasted a variety of different apples.
