Parent / Teacher Conferences
We value our families as partners and know parent conferences are an important opportunity for teachers and parents to collaborate on student learning goals and progress. To this end, we have worked to develop safety guidelines that will allow us to do in person conferences. As a reminder, conference week is scheduled for October 11-15 with modified school days of 8:00 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. Monday through Friday. Fall break is the week of October 18-22 and there is no school that week. The 2021-22 calendar can be found on the District’s website, under District Calendars, or directly at this link.
By ensuring the following protocols, we can be assured the greatest safety level practicable for an in person meeting.
Please note the following:
Parents will be able to choose an in person conference or a virtual conference.
Each child will have one time slot either virtual or in person. As in our Back to School Night protocols, the conference will be limited to one adult per household. A child with two households may have both parents attend in person at the same time or both parents attend on zoom at the same time.
- Masks are required on campus the entire time families are attending conferences.
- If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, please communicate with the teacher prior to the conferences so that a virtual conference can be arranged at another time.
Teachers will be stationed at the front of the room and will use technology to project student work and data. Parents will sit at least 6 feet away from the teacher during the conference.
Some teachers may have a student attend or lead the conference, but this will be shared specifically from your child’s teacher. Siblings may not attend the conference.
EUSD Digital Citizenship Course - New and Improved
Each year, we require EUSD students to take our Digital Citizenship course in order to provide a deeper awareness of digital safety and etiquette. The need for Digital Citizenship education is underscored by the higher percentage of students online. This year, we improved the course with the partnership of Edpuzzle to create an engaging and age appropriate set of lessons for each grade level that students. Teachers have provided very positive feedback about the content and the built in assessment of learning experience for each student. Students get to watch a video made just for their grade level that is engaging and sometimes very entertaining with assessment questions built in to the video that provides us with excellent data about their learning success. Currently over 90% of the EUSD students have completed the grade level course either individually for grades 3-6 and/or as a class for Kindergarten through Second grade. Our students have averaged a score of over 83% with students asking if they could try again for a higher score. Of course, we say YES to those enthusiastic requests.
Updated Decision Tree Now Available
As shared in last week’s newsletter, the Decision Tree changed related to quarantine for an out-of-school exposure. Instead of being required to quarantine at home for 10 or 14 days, out-of-school exposures now allow for a student to return to school on Day 8 if they have a negative test result on Day 6 or 7. We know this is important as it gets students back to school sooner. The updated Decision Tree is now available at this link.
Information from San Dieguito Union High School District / Superintendent Search
Encinitas Union School District elementary students feed into San Dieguito Union High School District (SDUHSD) for their middle and high school education. The San Dieguito Union High School District Governing Board is in the process of searching for the district’s new Superintendent. JG Consulting is working in collaboration with the Board to help find the district’s next leader. They have conducted various Town Hall meetings at their schools, but are also soliciting feedback from a survey. SDUHSD invites you to participate in this process by completing an online survey, open now through October 4, 2021, located at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WGKFG5J
