Reader's Workshop

Fables

A fable is a fictional story that is told, often by talking animals and this week in Reader's Workshop, students will learn about fables. As well, they will learn to identify the lesson or moral within a fable.

Later in the week students will learn that the reader will not always agree with what the fable is teaching and when that is the case, readers may bring those conversations to share with their partner.

Here ye, here ye!

As part of our reading lesson, students are asked to bring in a couple of different items...

  1. Favorite Book
  2. Kid-Approved Comic
  3. Kid-Approved Newspaper Clip
  4. Magazine

Fundations

In Fundations, students will continue to review previously learned materials about vowel teams. This week they will review the vowel team oi and oy - these sounds are found in words like boy and coin and make the /oy/ sound. They will continue to focus on writing words, neatly, on Fundations paper as well as marking up words with these vowel teams.

Writer's Workshop

Movie Reviews

This week in writing, the second grade students will begin writing movie reviews. First they will write a review from a movie they have previously seen and later in the week, the students will view a movie to then write another review on.

Math

Assessments

This week students will be assessed for the end of the year benchmark as given by the county. Also, they will complete their two timed AimsWeb assessments. We are looking forward to getting our testing behind us so we can enjoy some more fun activities in math!

Needs & Wants

In social studies this week, students will begin learning about our needs and wants. We will compare these needs and wants to the businesses here in Pittsboro that provide these. As well we will discuss how the businesses provide us with goods and services.
