symbolism
symbolism is when there is something in the story that is a ordinary object that represents something greater than itself. In this particular story the symbol is the bird the bird represents that doodles death is coming. both the bird and doodle where incredibly weak and died from exhaustion.
foreshadow
quote: "everybody expected him to die... except aunt nicey" this quote foreshadows that from the beginning doodle was expected to die. no one thought he would make it as far as he did. Doodle didn't necessarily belong there
point of view
Quote: "for heavens sake what's the matter I asked annoyed" the point of view in scarlet ibis is 1st person the story is told by brother.
flat character
Quote: everyone expected him to die except aunt nicey" this is one of the very few times that aunt nicey is in the story she makes only 2 appearances In the story but they are not so major nicey is a flat character
