Term 1 - Issue 3 11th March 2021
PRAYER
PRINCIPAL'S POST
Dear Parents & Caregivers,
As we move into the fourth Sunday of Lent, I have been encouraged by the spirit and compassion of a group of our Year 5 girls. This year's theme is 'Be More' and our Year 5 girls have taken that on by fundraising at recess and lunch for Project Compassion through the 'Fun Paper Shop'. The girls have designed and created origami, chatterboxes and various other items for sale and donated all money to their class Project Compassion box. It is a fantastic initiative that demonstrates Saint Oscar Romero's quote, 'Aspire not to have more, but be more'. The girls are pictured below and have managed to fill one Project Compassion box already! Thank you and congratulations to all these girls.
ySafe CyberSafety Workshops
This year, we have partnered with Australia's leading Cybersafety experts, ySafe. On Tuesday, they provided workshops for all children in Year 1-6, then followed with a staff workshop and parent workshop at night. As a result of this partnership, we are pleased to provide a Cybersafety hub for all our parents. This hub has a number of resources which are FREE to parents of our school. I encourage parents to use this resource in supporting your children to navigate the online world. The link is on our website and can be accessed here http://www.stfrancisbutler.cybersafetyhub.com.au
Thank you to Mrs Selyer and our Digital Learning Team (Mrs Evans and Mrs McDonald) for coordinating and supporting this initiative with ySafe.
IMCC Bursary 2022
A reminder to Year 6 parents that the Irene McCormack Bursary Applications are now open. The St Francis of Assisi Bursary is available to Year 6 children and through an application process, the successful applicant is offered significant fee discounts throughout the family's time at IMCC. Those parents and Year 6 children who are members of St Andrew's Parish are also welcome to apply for the St Andrew's Parish Bursary. Applications for both are available from the office or alternatively you can go onto IMCC's website and download the forms.
Nut Allergies
A reminder to parents that as we aim to be a nut-free school, please do not send children with nuts in their lunchbox. This includes peanut butter or nutella sandwiches as these pose a high risk to our children with anaphylaxis.
Evacuation Drill
Yesterday, our school conducted a practice fire drill. As part of our Crisis Management Planning, we conduct one emergency drill per term. This is to ensure our child safe practices are efficient and effective in keeping our children safe. It was pleasing to see us evacuate the whole school in 4:56mins! Congratulations to the children on following all processes and evacuating quickly. Term 2 will see us practice a lockdown drill - parents will be notified prior to this event.
2021 Fee Statements & Payment Options Form
These were emailed out (and a paper copy sent home) a fortnight ago. If you haven't already done so, parents need to tick the appropriate box and email/send the form back to mailto:finance@stfrancisbutler.wa.edu.au. Families that have yet to return the form will be contacted shortly. If you are experiencing financial difficulties, please contact the email address above to arrange an appointment with me to discuss.
Kindergarten 2022
Children born between 1st July 2017 to 30 June 2018 are due to commence Kindergarten next year. Please contact the school office for enrolment forms or download the application form from our school website. We will be holding our Kindy interviews early next term. If you know of any other families interested in their children attending our Kindy 2022 program please ask them to contact the school office.
Father Darek (New Parish Priest)
We welcome Father Darek to our parish this week after he was installed as the St Andrew's Parish Priest on Sunday. Father Darek will come and meet the children later this term.
Tough weekend with the Kiwi's beating us in the T20 Cricket, and then also the Diamonds losing to NZ in the netball. At least the Force had a great win over the Tahs. With the AFL season not far away, Mr Baker's world will soon be complete!
Best wishes and have a wonderful weekend!

Project Compassion
One of our commitments during Lent is to help those less fortunate than ourselves by almsgiving. Project Compassion supports families and communities throughout the world to access the basic necessities of life - food, water and shelter. We ask you to give generously to those in need this Lent. Project Compassion boxes are in each classroom until the end of Term 1.

Sacrament of Reconciliation
Saturday 20 March 3pm (St Andrew’s Catholic Church, Clarkson)
Solemnity of St Joseph
Pope Francis declared 2021 the 'Year of St Joseph'. St Joseph, the foster father of Jesus, was a man of strong faith. He was a carpenter; a humble man; a man who trusted deeply in God. We will honour St Joseph on Friday 19th March at 8:45am with a whole school liturgy, followed by the Harmony Day Assembly. We invite all families to join us for this celebration to honour the Patron Saint of the Universal Church, Families and Workers.
God Bless,
Miss Dee Campbell
