Principal's Message

Hello Maryland Families!

Thank you for coming to our Back to School Night! It was the first one we've had in 3 years. It was so nice to see you in person! Please remember, there are many opportunities for you to come and volunteer and be involved in your child's education. It makes such a dramatic and positive impact! Contact our office for more information.

New Information

Community Schools

We are excited to officially begin our journey as a Community School. Community Schools are designed to support learning and prioritize the well-being of children and adults. The foundation for improving academic opportunities and outcomes can only be realized through centering relationships, valuing the expertise of students and families as partners, and creating racially just, relationship-centered school climates and cultures. Please check out this brief 3 minute video explaining Community Schools in both English and Spanish.

Labor Day

There is no school tomorrow, Monday, September 5. We will see you all on Tuesday, September 6. Have a great rest of your weekend.

Picture Day

This Wednesday, come dressed to impress! This Wednesday will be our Fall Picture Day at Maryland. The weather continues to be hot! So please consider sending your student with an extra change of clothes for Picture Day.

PTA Meeting

Our 1st General PTA Meeting is Tuesday , September 13th at 5:30 p.m. in the library. A drawing for a $25 McDonalds gift card will be at the end of the meeting.

Childcare will be provided.

Inclement Weather Continues

This week, the temperature is scheduled to be hot again. Please ensure that your student is wearing appropriate clothing. Please make sure they bring a reusable water bottle and encourage them to drink plenty of water. If the temperature becomes too hot, we limit the outdoor activity for students. We play indoors when the temperature is too hot.

National Suicide Prevention Lifeline- 988

For the 2022-2023 school year, a change was made that requires information about suicide and crisis prevention be made availalbe to students in all middle and high schools. Education Code Section 215 requires public schools that serve secondary students to include the Crisis Text Line and the local suicide prevention hotline on the back of students’ ID cards. Here is a sample of the message:

If you or someone you know is struggling emotionally or having trouble coping,

or if you just want to talk, there is help. Call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 988 or text HOME to 741741 for free, confidential support.

Palomar Family Counseling

Palomar Family Counseling is offering free parenting classes here at Maryland in the MPR starting Tuesday, September 20 from 8:00am-10:00am. Strengthen your parenting skills, manage challenging behaviors, and build positive family relationships through fun and engaging activities.

Refreshments and weekly prizes will be raffled. Click on the flyers below to register or contact our office to speak with our Community Liaison!

Parking Lot

We need your help! Please remember to pull all the way forward with your car when picking up or dropping off your students. This helps tremendously with the flow of traffic.

Please use the crosswalk to get across the parking lot. Please do not cross directly in front of cars. We want to keep you and your students safe.

Upcoming Event

On Saturday, September 17 from 9:30am-11:30am, Lifeway Baptist Church will be using Maryland's facilities to hold an event. We wanted to make you aware of this event, in case you are interested in attending.

During this event, there will be free Soccer and Dance classes, Free backpacks and school supplies for every child attending, and a free catered lunch for all at 11:30am.

School Bell Schedule

8:00 AM - 12:54 PM

Tuesdays to Fridays:

8:00 AM - 2:21 PM

Gates open at 7:30 AM

It is required to have a photo-ID when picking up your student early. Anyone picking up a student must be on the emergency contact list, which you updated during the re-registration process. Please keep that information updated. This is for your child's safety.

It is our policy to not release students 20 minutes before the end of the school day.

When dropping off or picking up your student, please do not get out of your car and leave it unattended. Please only park in the marked parking stalls and please do not stop in your park behind parking spaces. This causes traffic. Use our crosswalk and do not cross in front of cars. We want to keep everyone safe and we need your help!

If you are bringing food for your child, please make sure that you let your child and your child's teacher know through ClassDojo so your student can be prepared to pick it up at lunch. We will do our best to let the teacher know as well, but sometimes our office gets busy, especially during lunchtime.

We value kindness and safety at Maryland. Please speak kindly to our staff and practice safety everyday. Together, we will make this the best year ever!

Health Updates

Vista Unified will continue to follow the guidance from the SDCOE COVID-19 Decision Trees for K-12 Schools.

  • Individuals who test positive must isolate at home and may be released from isolation on day six, provided that symptoms are improving, they are fever-free for the past 24 hours without fever-reducing medication, and they have a negative test result from a rapid antigen test taken on or after day five.

  • If the individual is asymptomatic, day zero of isolation is the day the individual was tested. Day one is the first full day following the day the individual was tested.

  • If the individual is symptomatic, day zero of isolation is the day of symptom onset, regardless of when the individual tested positive. Day one is the first full day following the day that symptoms started.

  • Employees eligible for shortened isolation must continue to wear a highly protective mask at all times in the workplace around others, except when eating or drinking, for 10 days after the date of the positive test.

  • Students ending isolation early are strongly recommended to wear a highly protective mask when around others, except when eating or drinking, for 10 days after the date of the positive test.

PTA at Maryland Elementary

We have a dedicated group of parents who work in conjunction with our school staff and community to make our school the best place to be. The PTA works tirelessly to provide school-wide events (Mako camp out, jog a thon, dances, promotion, assemblies, movie nights) that make school fun and build community.

Please consider joining our PTA. All money goes back to support your student!

PTA will be present during the registration days and kindergarten orientation to sell T-Shirts and other fun items. Please bring cash or check!
