Grant Opportunity
Dr. Jesse Schroeder of Schroeder Orthodontics, one of the GCISD Education Foundation’s official corporate sponsors and supporter of many schools, is proud to announce a Teacher’s Grant Contest. For the fourth year, he will be sponsoring five $1,000 grants as part of his five year $100,000 commitment to the Education Foundation and our school district. The grant will be given to a teacher in each grade, first-fifth. These are the key points to enter:
- Have your Texan write or draw a one-page idea of what he/she thinks the teacher could do for the students with the $1,000 grant.
- Students submit drawing or writing to their teachers by February 2, 2017.
- The teacher is to select the one that he/she thinks best expresses a good use of the grant; the selections will be submitted to the Education Foundation Office on Friday, February 3, 2017.
- The Education Foundation will deliver the submissions to Schroeder Orthodontics for selection of the five winners.
- The winners will be announced with check presentations to the teachers at the annual GCISD Council of PTAs Founder’s Day luncheon and program, Thursday, February 23.
There are no rules as to how the one-page drawing or writing should be done so be creative! Please make sure that your students have their name, grade, teacher’s name and school’s name on the submission.
Art News from Mr. Hughes
Thank you so much Bransford families and faculty for donating cereal boxes, paper towel rolls, and etc. Students will be using them to create 3-D sculptures in the near future.
Parents, if your email was on file, you should have received an email from Artsonia. Artsonia is an online art gallery for you child to submit artwork if they choose. If they do, you should receive an email updating you on their submission. I have already uploaded some art so it may be a surprise to your child that it is there. You can look at what they have created in art class and even comment and create a fan club. Looks like some parents and/or friends have purchased merchandise with their child’s art printed on it. Great! Thank you. A small percentage of the purchases will go to support Bransford art class so more supplies can be purchased. Awesome! Please email me if you have any questions.
There is an Art contest currently in place for students to illustrate the cover for a brochure pertaining to the G.C.I.S.D. Summer Enrichment Program for grades K-6. The theme is “Rockin through the Summer 2017” and should be included in their art. Please see attached flier for more details. I would recommend drawing and coloring with colored pencils. It is due February 10th. Students will be allowed to work on this at home and in class. Submissions are due February 10th. You or the student can turn them into me and I will turn them into Central office. Hope to see some awesome entries!

Art Contest
GCISD students of all ages are invited to create artwork illustrating the fun learning opportunities available through GCISD’s Summer Enrichment Program. This year’s theme is “Rockin' Through the Summer.” The winning artwork will serve as the cover design for the GCISD Summer Enrichment brochure, which will be posted on the website and provides information about registration and summer learning opportunities for students completing K-6th grades. Winning artwork will also be used to promote the Summer Enrichment Program through social media. The student who creates the winning entry will be recognized in the brochure and during a regular meeting of the GCISD Board of Trustees.
Art must be original and can be hand-drawn, painted, computer-designed or in any other medium. Judges will be looking for a design that is creative, appropriate and uses the “Rockin' Through the Summer” theme. Art should be on 8 ½” x 11” paper and submitted in color, but be able to be reproduced in black and white. Student's full name, school, grade and teacher's name should be on the BACK of the artwork. Please do not frame or mat entry to any size larger than 8 ½” x 11”. Our contest opened January 9, 2017, and the deadline for submitting the art is Friday, February 10th. Students should submit entries to their campus art teacher.
