STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
Tweeting About CNN10 News
Students in Ms. Blaine's class begin class by watching CNN10 News. They "Tweet" and discuss topics while locating any of the 3 "C's" mentioned (continents, countries, or cities) in their Atlas.
Mega-size Math Transformations!
The students in Mrs. Mosetti's 8th grade Gold Pod class worked on Mega-size Math Transformations! They created life-size stained glass windows by transforming polygons. They used translations, reflections, rotations, and dilation to create their masterpieces!
Super Science Slinky
In Mrs. Flesch's 7th grade science class, we used a Super Science Slinky to demonstrate the properties of longitudinal and compression waves. This was to kick-start our second chapter: Saltwater.
Financial Literacy with Mr. Puma
This week, Mrs. Kraybill and Mr. Goodwin’s math classes worked with Mr. Puma on Financial Literacy. The students learned about the differences between wants and needs and how to prioritize financial obligations as a component of financial literacy.
Computer Principles
In Computer Principles, 6th grade students were given a secure box containing a flux capacitor that would save Fernwood from a devastating cyber outage. This was no hoax! There were multiple layers (locks) of protection on the boxes. The supplies were purchased with an EHT Educational Foundation mini grant and the breakout activity was created by the University of Nebraska Omaha. The team challenge was to use their knowledge about Digital Citizenship to work through all the layers (locks) by solving puzzles, watching videos and answering questions to retrieve the flux capacitor. All of the groups were successful and no cyber outages occurred! Kids really enjoyed the challenge of this breakout activity. Students described it as fun but hard.
CLIMATE and CULTURE
Heroes of the Month
Super Staff of the Week
Winner, Winner Wednesday
Ms. McLaughlin's students do a little fun thing in class every Wednesday called "Winner, Winner Wednesday". Students select a ticket and then at the end of class, Ms. McLaughlin selects a winner from the hat. Students could win homework passes, candy, etc.
Koffee Korner
Our coffee cart began today and was served to staff in the morning and afternoon. We had a lot of staff participation. The kids enjoyed helping the staff purchase their coffee and manage orders. This will continue every Friday for the remainder of the school year. This week's coffee and donuts were donated to us by Dunkin Donuts (English Creek).
