Message from the Principal

LKMS Families,

As we begin to prepare for the holiday season, we are asking that you please remember the less fortunate or those who have fallen on hard times in our Blue Valley community.

We are excited to host a canned food and non-perishable food drive the week of November 14th – 18th. During this week, we are encouraging students to do extra chores around the house or find other ways to earn money to purchase and/or bring in and donate canned food and nonperishable food. All food collected will be donated to Community for Kids,, a local organization and will be picked up on Friday afternoon.

During this week, we will be tracking the amount of food donated by each grade level in addition to a spirit week! At the end of the week, the grade level with the most food items will win our Cougar Cup Trophy, and will also get an advantage in our next assembly!!

If you are in need of food or other help this holiday season, please contact me at or reach out directly to so that we can provide you with food for your family.

Thank you for your continued support of our LKMS community!

Office Staff Changes

This month has brought a few changes to the LKMS office. Audrey Wilson, who has worked for the past year and a half as our receptionist, has accepted a new job at District Office. Audrey has done an amazing job helping to run our office in her time here. We are so excited for her new opportunity and wish her the best on this new journey.

We have hired Amanda (Mandie) Marian to take Audrey's place as our receptionist. Mandie is a former LKMS parent (her two children are now at BVW) and a past PTO President. We are thrilled to have Mandie join our LKMS office staff and we know she will be a great fit. As a member of our own community, she already knows the ins and outs of Lakewood and is integrating into her new role seamlessly. If you stop by the front office or make a phone call to the school over the next few weeks, please be patient as we make this transition within our office. As always, thank you for the continued support of our school and our staff.

8th Grade PSAT Test

The PSAT 8/9 will be offered to 8th grade students during the school day on Thursday, November 17th. This exam is part of the suite of assessments offered by the College Board. The PSAT 8/9 establishes a baseline measurement of a student’s college and career readiness before entering high school. It also allows students to preview the new design of the SAT and the PSAT/NMSQT that will be available when they are in high school.

Click here to learn more about the PSAT 8/9.

Also, please remind your student to bring a sharpened #2 pencil to their session.

Results will be shared with families as scores become available through College Board. If you have any questions, please contact Brooke Ash,

Math Homework Help

We will be offering homework help in the library every Thursday for all grade levels from 3:00-4:00 PM. This is a time for students to get help on math concepts and work on homework. Students must stay for the entire time and can work on other homework if they finish their math work early.

Musical Audition Info

Are you interested in auditioning for the musical or participating? Please see the attachment for more information about being a part of Sponge Bob, the Musical.

Diversity Club Cookbook

The Lakewood Diversity Council would like to invite you to help us create Lakewood’s third annual community cookbook!

We are inviting you to share a beloved recipe (or two beloved recipes) that your family enjoys together! The recipes will then be organized and shared as a digital cookbook for free to all Lakewood families. Additionally, there will be an opportunity to purchase a printed copy of the cookbook through the school. The final cost is to be determined once the entire cookbook has been compiled, but regardless, all families will have free digital access. Once the price is known, communication will be sent out. If you participated last year, please consider sharing new recipes this year.

Here is what we are looking for in your recipe!

  1. Dish Name

  2. Dish Type (appetizer, snack, entree, side dish, breakfast, dessert)

  3. Time needed to make

  4. Difficulty (easy, medium, hard)

  5. Roots (this could be heritage, nationality, region, culture, religion, or even just a family tradition)

  6. Serving Size/Quantity

  7. Optional: Label vegetarian, vegan, or any specific type of food-safety

  8. Optional: “From the kitchen of…” to share your family name

  9. Picture or pictures (as many as you would like)

  10. Ingredients

  11. Directions

  12. Story (a short story that shares the importance of this dish to your family; this could include when it’s eaten, why it’s eaten, or even just a fond memory that this food provides)

  13. Optional: Notes (this would include recommendations for places to buy tough-to-find ingredients, substitution recommendations, or anything else you feel it would be helpful to share)

  14. Optional: Decorate the recipe page(s) in whatever way you would like!

Requirements that will allow us to create one, cohesive book:

  1. 1-4 pages long

  2. Designed for standard paper size

  3. Shared as a PDF (please contact if you need help)

If you would like to see a few examples of recipe pages, please click here. If you would like to see an example of previous year’s cookbooks, click here for the 2021-2022 and here for the 2020-2021. If you would like to make it completely by hand, you are welcome to do so and we will scan it here at school to get it into the book.

There will also be raffle prize opportunities for families that contribute a recipe!

Please send completed recipes and any questions to by Friday, November 11th!
